phi(p_n) = 2T_n oops wrote that one wrong...

i first saw chebyshev polynomials and symmetric functions in a talk aimed at undergrads involving this homomorphism and a few others for lagrange and hermite polynomials.

phi(e_n) = 1, 2q, 1, 0, 0, 0... for n = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... e_n the elementary symmetric function. then phi(h_n) = U_n and phi(T_n) = p_n. from "Counting With Symmetric Functions" pg 105. i just checked with claude phi is induced by the inclusion of sl2 into GL, kinda cool.
