This is why we can't do business with countries that refuse to meet climate targets. If their economy is driven by cooking the planet, then we have to kill their economy to save the planet.
Looking at you, USA.

She/her. Not here for fascists, nor those just marching with the fascists against that one group. Left like I'm an Anglo-Irish socialist, intersectional as hell like I'm an American Democrat. Because I am.

A black and white photography by Edward Weston, called "Mary" of a kitten sitting on top of an old-fashioned clock in front of a circular dish, and on top of a handled case. There are two ceramic roses to one side of the clock
On #Caturday, thinking ahead about the time change, and ready to "spring forward" tomorrow.

CBS obtained video of the DHS killing of an unarmed man in Texas that DHS concealed for nearly a year, which clearly contradicts claims that he violently rammed anyone. He is shot with his brake lights on, car not moving or barely moving. Another DHS crime.
In Europe the Police are rounding up the Epstine File perps.
If you were a victim of a European perp, why not call the Europol hotline. They will listen!

Foreign estimates are anywhere from 20-1000 Americans killed from all the embassies, satellite offices of various letter agencies and CIA offices hit
One thing they are pointing out "held back information" "black out situation" "USA flat out lying to the public by holding information"
This is happening in America!
FFS DO SOMETHING!

Interesting hand signal from Pete Hegseth this morning
The Dread Pirate Roberts⦠is here for your souls!
It could not be more obvious that the president does not care about US service members and in fact regards their deaths as mere political inconveniences. He has more sympathy for Putin than Americans who died because he decided to wage illegal war. Just listen to him.
I'm not going to claim that the US ever completely lived up to its ideals, but some of those ideals were absolutely magnificent.
(That said, some of the casual racism in the cartoon--teeth, just "Africans" lumped together, etc.--really bothers me, but the message is heading in the right direction)
I think even the 1861-1865 war polled better at the time it started.
There was a series of educational videos in Saturday morning cartoons in the US in the 70s. Grammar, civics, the usual stuff. They were FUCKING BRILLIANT. One that sold the American Dream was The Great American Melting Pot, and the flags are at about 55 seconds in.

If aliens showed up tomorrow and demanded a reason not to destroy our entire species, I'd produce Beethoven's Ode To Joy. But Men Of Harlech wouldn't be too far behind.
Schoolhouse Rock's Great American Melting Pot sequence. Notably absent are English, German, Dutch, or French flags because that would have been too obvious. Also, I like the shuffling which comes after that line in the video.
You do realise I'm going to spend all night thinking of, "I claim zis land for France!" from the comedy skit. And "America was founded by the English, but also by the Germans, Dutch, and French..."
I can't think of any Welshmen in our circle, so somebody should at least mention them here because they'd be kicking our butts if they were and I feel like I ought to admit that.

This is Alex Pretti.
A better use for all that warehouse space.
There's forty shillings on the drum for those who volunteer to come...
I think the piper at my wedding may have played that as we basically told him to have fun outside of a couple of moments, but honestly the entire day is something of a blur.
Yes, I married somebody who was thrilled to discover my Scottish ancestry. I hope you did too. That ABBA problem aside.
I almost missed ABBA (okay, three of them) in One Night In Bangkok.
I get that some people never need to hear them again in the same way some people never need to hear Hotel California or Stairway to Heaven, though. Similarly to how I know Louisianans who get twitchy when they hear CCR.
I've never seen these DPM people you speak of.
But if it makes them feel any better, I'm actually more fond of some other tunes.

Make no mistake. If left unchecked, Donald J Trump will destroy the world.
Time to do something about it America. This is on you.
BREAKING NEWS: U.S. Intelligence Community Tells Trump His Plan for Iran Will Fail
Picture of DOGE guy Nate Cavanaugh
Screenshot of my DOGE letter βDr. Joseph Rezek Dear NEH Grantee, This letter provides notice that the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is terminating your federal grant (Grant Application No. FEL29509824) effective April 3, 2025, in accordance with the termination clause in your Grant Agreement. Your grant no longer effectuates the agency's needs and priorities and conditions of the Grant Agreement and is subject to termination due to several reasonable causes, as outlined in 2CFRΒ§200.340. For instance, NEH has reasonable cause to terminate your grant in light of the fact that the NEH is repurposing its funding allocations in a new direction in furtherance of the President's agenda. The President's February 19, 2025 executive order mandates that the NEH eliminate all non-statutorily required activities and functions. See Commencing the Reduction of the Federal Bureaucracy, E.O. 14217 (Feb. 19, 2025). Your grant's immediate termination is necessary to safeguard the interests of the federal government, including its fiscal priorities. Any objections or appeals to this termination will be managed in strict accordance with the President's Executive Orders,
Last year, this guy (left) from DOGE used ChatGPT to find NEH grants that were too βDEIβ for Trump, and canceled them, including mine, as shown by the letter I received last April (right). Huge new NYT article on the back story link below
Also, does anybody here remember Vera Lynn? Red, white, and blue, what does it mean to you?

I'm embarrassed to admit how many times I listened to Johnny Horton's Sink The Bismarck, Jim Bridger, and Battle Of New Orleans growing up.
We drove past Jim Reeves' grave once and I said, "I guess he had to go." I slept on the couch for a week. Worth it.
Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of Bobby Vinton's music as such at all but it reminds me of my father, as do Harbor Lights and a few others. As Wild Colonial Boy, Que Sera Sera, and some others remind me of my mother.
I got hit with my parents' stuff at that age. Then my father discovered ABBA and Evita about the time I discovered Tom Jones. Then came Floyd, Zeppelin, and the Who, and that's where I've been since.
But I do still love some Herb Alpert, Dean Martin, Doris Day, etc.
And Wearing Of The Green.π
Any kind of sugary breakfast cereal.
But then I haven't had a breakfast in...ten years? And haven't regulary eaten it in...twenty?
They've now killed four people -- three U.S. citizens and a Mexican national. They've shot several more.
They've lied about all of them. They haven't shaded the truth. They haven't "misled" us. They've brazenly, knowingly lied while in possession of the evidence disproving their lies.
