They are a delight π
...and nearby the first stirrings of Thale cress (Arabidopsis thaliana). If you squint you can see a flower that's just opening π§
#WildFlowerHour
A perfect sweet violet on the edge of some tarmac
#WildFlowerHour
A treat to find this gorgeous clump of primroses on my walk this afternoon. A handy adaptation to prevent self-pollination, both flower forms, thrum & pin-eyed were growing alongside each other. #wildflowerhour

Three photos of Butterbur flower heads.
#WildFlowerHour Very early (22/1/24) Butterbur, Petasites hybridus, in a swale in Accordia estate beside Hobson's Brook #Cambridge. No sign at historic site in city yet!
Image from Carrickmore "downland" looking towards Fairhead
Gorse flowering + a lot of buds
First Lesser Celandine flowering on bleak windy hillside
Image of Alpine strawberry - first flower of this year
Scramble near Fairhead finding Lesser Celandine flourishing & flowering oddly only near tiny (wind sheltered) stream & Gorse + many buds looking amazing. + One "Alpine" Strawberry in garden.

A welcome #TheWinter10 for #WildFlowerHour from Shacklegate Lane Cemetery, TW11
Shy celandine, snowdrops, primrose
common and green field-speedwell, ivy-leaved speedwell, red dead-nettle
daisy, eastern sowbread and dandelion
The first few flowers are appearing on the carpet of naturalised spring sowbread, Cyclamen repandum, in St James churchyard, and clearance work on a nearby road verge has exposed several patches of beautifully marked sowbread, Cyclamen hederifolium, leaves

#TheWinter10 (and a bit) #WildflowerHour
A cluster of white yarrow flowers, pink herb Robert, pale yellow primrose, a closed yellow flower-head of smooth sow-thistle with two red holly fruit below, a dishevelled daisy, partially unfurling yellow dandelion, red dead-nettle, bright blue flowers of green alkanet, green sun spurge and a single purple sweet violet flower
#TheWinter10 for #WildFlowerHour from local roads and St James churchyard, TW12 including my first sweet violet π and primrose π of the year. It feels as though the new year's flowers are finally starting - just before the chilly shock
Sorry to hear that. Some UK gardeners dislike its ability to spread, but it brings me great pleasure in my own garden
Thanks! πΌ

Thanks Sue, it's good to see you on here too. Thought I'd try doing both but I'm not sure it's going to work - and I've only tried two posts tonight!
I'm glad it's the only plant I've seen with flowers so there are still lots to look forward to π
Single lesser celandine plant growing on a grave. It has mottled leaves and two flower buds
My first lesser celandine (Ranunculus ficaria, syn. Ficaria verna) flower of the year. Okay, so the flowers aren't open, but I had to share for #wildflowerhour
An Ely #thewinter10. Daisy, Shepherdβs purse, Sweet violet, Dandelion, Periwinkle, Winter heliotrope, Annual mercury, another Daisy, Common chickweed, Red dead nettle and Feverfew. #wildflowerhour
As winter takes hold, I found signs of spring on today's walk - Winter Aconite and Snowdrop flowering in a village churchyard and the first Bluebell leaves pushing through the leaf litter at Old Sulehay Forest NR.
