@andyzahn
Photographer, writer, environmentalist, geek I live in the shadow of Mt. St. Helens where I write about cameras and other tech, create YouTube videos, and spend a lot of time out in nature photographing wildlife and the places they live.

Awesome to be out in the snow again! Finally!
The mist-cloaked Cascade Mountains this morning. #orwx
βOn March 5, 2026, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution with a 372-53-2 vote, which declared Iran to be the largest state sponsor of terrorism.β
After that vote they voted to approve the DHS/ICE appropriations. Parez was one of 4 Dems voting with the gop. She has to go.
This is just disgusting. Democrats have 157 fascist bootlickers in Congress. Primary them all.
Crunching to hit a deadline this evening. Really heavy metal is the only thing which helps me to focus in at times like these!
Today I decided to give "Lamb of God" a try. Good stuff!
This is the camera setup I'm testing right now - it's pretty cool!

Why is it so difficult to implement basic forest practices reforms which have been clearly needed for longer than most people have been alive?
Clearcutting obviously needs to be replaced with thinning. It is absurd that this change has not been adopted everywhere already.
The Toutle Mountains should be designated as a Natural Resource Conservation Area. They have immense ecological, scenic, and recreation value.
Contact Commissioner Upthegrove: cpl@dnr.wa.gov
And the Pacific Cascade region of DNR: pacific-cascade.region@dnr.wa.gov
Tell them to change the "country boy" timber sale to be a thinning operation rather than a clearcut, and to implement larger buffers for streams and the wildlife area.
The WADNR is planning an enormous clearcutting operation in the Toutle Mountains, on steep slopes right up to the boundary with the Mt. St. Helens Wildlife Area.
The forest in question would actually benefit from some thinning, but @wadnr.bsky.social plans to just hack it all down. π‘
It's worth noting that the same bad management practices occur at other state parks in the region, and that's because the same person is in charge of those parks as well.
Clearly, the management of Seaquest and the other parks in the region needs to change.
While other parks suffer from a lack of staff, Seaquest seems to have a surplus of workers. They also have a fleet of brand new vehicles.
Meanwhile, Lewis & Clark State Park is closed all winter long, and other state park sites may soon be closed due to lack of funding.
They were also busy raking leaves in the forest - in some places completely removing this critical cover which many lifeforms depend on.
This is the same park which cut down an Oregon White Oak to "improve" the view, among other ecological atrocities.
Fern fronds are soft and beautiful. They do not impede travel, and they do not need to be cut back.
They certainly should not be attacked by a machete or a weed whacker, which it appears is what the staff at Seaquest State Park have done. π€¬
The first thing which should be cut is DNRs social media/PR team and the corrupt bureaucrats within your administration.
Maybe also stop wasting money fighting forest advocates in court, and instead work with the people who put you where you are today.
Yes, we have to start keeping track of who is protecting corporations and the rich, and make sure they don't survive their next primary.
Any Democrat who is not firm in their opposition of Trump's war in Iran should be primaried, & replaced with someone with a spine.
It's not just Fetterman, unfortunately:
Pete Aguilar, CA
Chris Coons, DEL
Jeanne Shaheen, NH
Jack Reed, RI
Gary Peters, MI
Tim Kaine, VA
Elissa Slotkin, MI
We need to primary the so-called "Democrats" who oppose the millionaires tax. #waleg
Adison Richards (Gig Harbor)
Amy Walen (Kirkland)
Alicia Rule (Blaine)
Mari Leavitt (University Place)
If you live in their districts, you need to find a better alternative in the primary. #TaxTheRich
Perhaps the worst thing which generative AI has done to the world is to poison our trust in the creative works of our fellow man.
AI is truly a cancer of the mind, and it is killing our species' collective soul.
Yes, it should be possible to gather signatures and trigger a nationwide popular vote to remove the president and their entire administration from office. Furthermore, this should also trigger elections that same year for every house and senate seat.
I think we should have the right to vote out a president that doesn't follow the laws or rules.

A transition to a clean energy economy is essential, but it's equally important that make sure what we are transitioning to is genuinely clean and sustainable.
We should locate renewables in existing built space, & that we prioritize reductions in energy demand. #CleanEnergy #Climate #waleg
The swallows have returned! Like clockwork, they have returned at the start of March, heralding the coming spring.

In fact, this decaying brush pile is one of the most popular spots on the entire farm among local wildlife.
Never let anyone tell you that woody debris are merely an eyesore and a fire hazard: they are habitat, and eventually become rich soil.
We don't burn, chip, or throw in a landfill the woody debris from our yard. Instead, we pile them in the field to decompose over time.
Not only is this process surprisingly fast, but the brush pile is also valuable wildlife habitat. Wrens nest there, while rabbits and chipmunks also call it home.
