No one should die this way. Stop the violence.
Same. Entertaining. Erudite. A role model for women everywhere.
And here’s where it really was useful. Two days ago I mucked up the pattern and forgot to add stitches in the correct row. It was easy to see when I’d mucked up (only three rows to unpick!), fix the error, and keep going. 😁
Winning at life! 🤣🤣

As a long-time undiagnosed #AuDHDer , knitting anything that involves keeping track of rows and stitches has been either impossible or incredibly draining. Finding out that there are apps to design and track knitting patterns is a game changer!

Hi Fladdle 👋❤️
Why is Tony Armstrong described as a sports broadcaster and not a journalist? Important work

I regret to inform you that I cannot agree to your Speaker Code of Conduct for the Bendigo Writers Festival and therefore I must cancel my appearance at the festival. My reasons for this are many. 1) This Code of Conduct was sent out only yesterday, only 4 days before my appearance which, when you consider how long ago I was invited to the festival was an unacceptably short time to consider such a change. 2) Your Code of Conduct is, as you said, only one page long but it requests authors follow the Latrobe University Anti-Racism Plan, a 19 page legal document. I do not have the time to consider all the ramifications of all that document. 3) I am not an employee of La Trobe University and I will not be compelled to censor my speech to follow the University’s policy, particularly when, as was pointed out in point 1), I received that code only 4 days before the festival. I would not even agree to such a policy at a workplace where I worked so if I worked for La Trobe university I would be looking for another job. 4) I do not work for anyone who censors my speech. To do so would be culturally unsafe. I recently refused to sign a publishing contract that censored my freedom of speech. That should inform you how important my own freedom to speak freely is to me.
5) The La Trobe University Anti Racism Plan that you are attempting to compel me to follow conflates Anti-Zionism with antisemitism. It also conflates support for Palestinian freedom with antisemitism. I am an anti-racist activist of some standing and I therefore support decolonization of Palestine so I cannot agree to having my speech compelled in that way. I wish you all the best with your festival this weekend, I have supported you for years and have always loved appearing there, but I cannot appear at a festival that is attempting to compel or censor my speech. The way you have handled this is disturbing, you are working with writers, authors and artists, many of whom are people of colour and/or Indigenous. I respectfully ask you to do better in future, to consider that to many writers our freedom of speech is more important than any festival. Please remove me from your program. Regards Claire
Here is the text of the email I sent to Bendigo Writers Festival early this afternoon cancelling my appearance at the festival this weekend.

respect to Maddison Griffiths, Jacinta Le Plastrier, Jess Hill, Claire G Coleman, Kate Mildenhall, Thomas Mayo, Cher Tan, and Kate Larsen for standing in solidarity in this moment👏🏼❤️👊🏼
A terrible response politically. But, also, after everything that’s happened over the last year, all the controversy about muzzling creatives, how tone deaf and stupid is the Bendigo Writers Festival for trying to do this?
I'm sad for all the people who planned and worked on the Bendigo Writers Festival program: today must be an awful day for them, and for the writers & audiences and staff who are going to have to try to clean up the mess & deal with an unnecessary logistical nightmare two days away.
'What are the game-changing ideas that Australia needs now?'
Probably not this one, Bendigo Writers Festival.
NEW: More than half a dozen prominent authors have pulled out of the Bendigo Writers Festival after being told to sign a code of conduct that would inhibit criticism of Israel.

I too have withdrawn from participating in the Bendigo Writers Festival

Although the festival have not replied to my email I can confirm that this article is correct and I am one of the authors who has pulled out of the Bendigo Writers Festival. I will not comply to any code of conduct that censors my speech on genocide.
Wow! Bendigo Writers Festival (15 - 17 Aug) is making guest speakers sign a last-minute agreement to not mention Israel's genocide of Palestinians. Writers who care about human rights are cancelling. Any writer/guest still thinking of appearing should seriously reconsider. Stand up! Refuse to comply
Exclusive | Speakers are boycotting the Bendigo Writers Festival after receiving a code of conduct from event organisers that required “compliance” with a controversial definition of antisemitism.
A response from Bendigo Writers Festival:
This is ghoulish nonsense from the Bendigo Writers Festival
Oh, Bridie. Sending you love and hugs and hope and love. xo
It appears that way, huh.
That does seem VERY suspicious!
