A little armored one / turtle rabbit in the wild

The word armadillo is borrowed from Spanish and simply means “little armored one.” But an even better word for an armadillo, in my opinion, is the Nahuatl ayotochtli. It means “turtle rabbit.”

This has happened to me more times than I can count. Being one of the only people who can read cursive quickly on our staff is mind boggling sometimes.

Currently processing an LGBTQ+ history collection while using my Keith Haring pencil. Life is feeling a bit on the nose today. Also, it’s gently encouraging a research project that has been slowly taking shape over the last few years. Time will tell.

For many years I have been posting little observations online. What you may not know is that for many years, artists have been illustrating them - for no reason other than they wanted to respond. Below is a thread of some of these beautiful drawings because they should be seen 🧵

I would also recommend checking with folk schools like the North House Folk School or similar groups. Those instructors are brilliant and you never know what they could have in their encyclopedic brains.

Vellum holds up well (like hundreds of years well) 17th and 18th century cotton rag paper depends on how the documents were stored, and it is a bit hit or miss, but generally 200 ish years on before it starts to eats through. Wood pulp paper has even less time (100 ish years)

Oh what an exciting thing to experiment. Also, as an archivist, oak gall ink makes me sad because the acidity will eventually make it eat the paper. It does, however, sometimes only eat the paper where the ink is so you get phantom letters as very beautiful holes.
