Image shows a close up of the unfinished embroidery. The motif is printed or painted on which can be seen in the areas that is not yet filled in. The design consists of flowers, leaves and decorative swirls in the style of Norwegian rosemaling. A bigger flower with red petals features at the bottom, above it is two stems stretching out to the sides with smaller flowers on them. And above that is the head of a blue cornflower, some leaves and another small flower at the very top that is still unfinished.

And here are some images from the first major project of the year. Embroidering a traditional dress and then sew it all together, and the deadline for everything to be finished is April when the client will wear it ๐

A crocheted doll in pale skin colour. She is wearing a dress vaguely inspired by late 1500's dress styles. The copper brown bodice is close fitting with front lacing and tabs at the waist. It has green metallic thread sewn into it for effect and the fabric is distressed with painting. The sleeves are in black chiffon that's been chinched at several points with green metallic thread to create a puffed sleeve effect, reminicent of renaissance style gowns. Sleeves are also distressed with painting. The skirt consists of several layers: black party satin strips at the base, overlayed with unevenly shaped black and orange tulle, black chiffon and then black lace scraps. The layers are staggered and uneven, not fully covering up the layer beneath. Between the lace and chiffon, there's also strips of untwisted metallic crochet thread, the same that's been used previously. The skirt has also been distressed with painting. She has a pair of leaf wings painted in green and metallic copper at her back, and her blonde waist long hair has been tainted on the lower half with the same paint. On her head she has a pointed hat that's drooping slightly down at the back, and it has the same look as wicker baskets. The hat is painted in green and copper, and the brim consists of little leafs in the same colours, with green metallic thread sewn in to create the veins of the leafs. Same kind of leafs are scattered around the hat. She has black eyes and pink blushed cheeks. In her left hand she's holding a wand in green with a copper coloured detail coiled around it from top to bottom. At the end there's a little round multicoloured bead. The painting used to distress her clothing is metallic copper, which makes her shimmer in different lighting from all angles. In this picture she's in slight profile from the right, hovering over the grass (supported by a doll stand) leaning slightly forwards towards a red berry with her right arm bent at the elbow stretching for the berry.

Me neither!
Super excited for this!!
Two crocheted art dolls standing in a Christmas decorated room. They're facing the camera with arms interlinked. The doll to the left is a reindeer with white hair and blue eyes. She's dressed in a white blouse and a bright red skirt, holding a handfan in silver in front of her snout. Next to her is a bear with blue eyes and brown hair. He is dressed in a white shirt with a wine red waistcoat that has white buttons, and at the neck is a white cravat. He has dark green trousers.

Towards the background of green grass and green leaves, a recreation of an afternoon dress ca. 1898 is standing in a side profile. It's slightly angled towards the camera. In the shade of light blue, it has ruffles, frills and rosettes in different shades of blue and a little bit of white. It also has white lace insertions and lace trim along the frill edges. It has a belt at the waist that gives the cinched look, and it has a bow with streamers we can glimpse at the back. The shoulders have epaulettes and there's a high collar. Three rosettes are adorning the left side of the skirt in a line towards the hem, and along the hem all the way around there's a ruffle detail going in zig zag wave. The light blue fabric is in cotton sateen, and the details are in different materials including silk, cupro, cotton, nylon.
The dress in question ๐ #historicalfashion
๐ the amount of preparation and research I did for that dress... taught me SO much on not just reacrating an extant garment, but also how useful it is to break down a big project at the start and have that overview of all the elements.
That sounds promising to me!! ๐๐ ๐งต๐ชก

Very excited for this! Talking about #crafts, #artdolls and #costumes. Can't wait to hear the finished result of a really enjoyable conversation with two lovely ladies ๐
A circular embroidery frame with black velvet covering. In the centre is a dark green fabric with embroidered honeycoomb pattern in three tones of yellow, framed in with two shades of brown. In the centre of the image is an embroidered bee in black and orange, and blue-grey wings. The embroidery is done with surface satin stitches and split stitch for the black outlines. The style of the image is stained glass inspired.
A lil impromptu embroidery I did ๐ (not my design)

It truly is!!
A crocheted anthropomorphic stag dressed in 1920s inspired male fashion seen from the back. He's standing in rust coloured trousers and champagne coloured shirt featuring white collar and cuffs. His suspenders are in wine red and he has a turquise blue news boys hat. His hair is dark brown with grey streaks. He has black and brown fake leather shoes. His sleeves are pulled up, and he's standing slightly swayed, holding a golden saxophone we can't see which he's currently playing.

His suspenders are in wine red and he has a turquise blue untied bow tie and matching news boys hat. His eyes are green and his hair dark brown with grey streaks. A few more pictures of my art doll Sax Kronhjarbarek. The commissioner was over the moon and his expectations exceeded, which made me really happy!

Close up of the handmade golden saxophone, bow tie and suspenders. You can see the row of beads representing buttons on his shirt, his slightly open collar and the neck strap holding the saxophone.
Sax Kronhjarbarek is finished!! I am super happy with how he turned out, and extremely pleased that I managed to work out a solid way for him to be hung up like the commissioner requested!

Front view of a female in a black corset decorated with flossing in blue tones, green, pink and purple. The corset has a straight busk at the front, and horizontal cording across the top in the bust area. The cording is embroidered with blue stems in a fan shape, topped with simple pink flowers. The picture is cropped to only show the corsetted portion of the torso.
Back view of a female in a black corset decorated with flossing in blue tones, green, pink and purple. The corset has cross lacing in the back. The picture is cropped to only show the corsetted portion of the torso.
The corset has been finished for a while, but here it is!! I'm still breaking it in, but I have already made some notes on things I'll change for the next one I make. This isn't unexpected, and I'm looking forward to the continuation of my corset journey!

This is stunning!
I try to match the names to the theme/inspiration of the doll, so both my Viking dolls have Norse names for example.
Sax Kronhjarbarek is not that easy to find as the surname is a mash-up of a norwegian word and a name xD
