Short video segment about SCIMPIs IODP3 Expedition 501 deployment off Cape Cod. @wcax.com Thank you for making a complex subject easy to understand!
@scimpi
SCIMPI is an inexpensive subsea borehole observatory for unconsolidated sediments. Just deployed on IODP³-NSF/ECORD Exp. 501: New England Shelf Hydrogeology. Let's discuss your scientific ocean drilling project. https://www.transcendengineering.com/scimpi

@jonaspreine.bsky.social @elodielebas.bsky.social we are trying to get in touch regarding the Santorini conference, kindly DM. Thank you!
Check it out...
Check out the team working on a choreographed deployment of SCIMPI on the L/B Robert at the end of the summer.
Scientific ocean drilling has been a challenging field to navigate in the past several years (understatement😅) Transcend Engineering is a small, nimble company dedicated to adapting to changes and offering reliable borehole monitoring solutions for the long-term.
On that project, too, we refined the overhead work protocol to leverage available tooling and rigging, enabling us to emplace and release each system within about two hours of receiving clearance to proceed. 2/2
Thank you for the question. Each deployment involves a minor bit of specialization based on the expedition and equipment. For instance, we just deployed two systems in the New England shelf using a terrestrial drill rig on a lift boat, and released them using a Boart Longyear overshot. 1/2
The next generation of SCIMPI is under development. What subsea measurements would you like to include in your next project? Would you like to learn more about how to include SCIMPI in your proposals? Our scientific team is available to talk through your ideas, just reach out. 🌊
Boosting…
Ooh ooh 👋
Love the attention @ecord.bsky.social Expedition 501 is receiving, and of course our entire SCIMPI team is thrilled with having been part of the expedition.
Fantastic!
Wowza!
More aurora…
Did you catch the aurora? 🤩
Fantastic way to start a Tuesday 😉
“Four parts per thousand was a eureka moment,” Dugan said, because the finding suggested that the water must have been connected to a terrestrial system in the past, or still is.

🙌
Yayyysss! And our team worked with the crew to deploy SCIMPI to collect subsea data.
What scientist doesn't love thinking up a good acronym? 😜 🌊 #scientificoceandrilling #subsea

Amplifying...
Re-upping. A little distraction before bedtime from the news of the day.
Oh this is a cool time lapse. Our Chief Technologist Steve took video this leaving the L/B Robert scientific drill ship (yup, that's it way up above the water!) on the transport vessel the Gaspee. #ScientificOceanDrilling #Expedition501 🌊
*there. Sigh.
Expeditions can be weeks or months long and accommodate crew who are their for a short time to perform their speciality. How does the crew switch out? From the supply ship, which is much smaller than the expedition vessels, so a Billy Pugh basket is loaded with the crew for the transfer. Hang on!
