What do we want? The team that is in the playoffs for the first time (Charge) or the defending champions (Frost)?
It's also the second year in a row that the team that "picked" who they wanted to face in the first round was eliminated by them. Curious to see if that remains a rule in the league.
It's official, the Minnesota Frost and Ottawa Charge are both headed to the Walter Cup Finals. Ironic that just a few weeks ago both teams were fighting for a spot in the playoffs.
Two months and four days old! I’ve had her for two hours and she already likes laying on my computer and watching the PWHL….
I am not live tweeting the Montreal/Ottawa game today. I adopted a new buddy earlier today, who keeps attacking the screen and restarting the game making it ~slightly~ difficult to do work.
Toronto wins game one.
Katy Knoll makes it a one-goal game for Minnesota.
Toronto 3 I Minnesota 2
Toronto fans could be heard chanting "Kick her out" as Britta Curl-Salemme is assessed a major penalty for a check to the head. She has left the game.
Britta Curl is assed with a five minute major match penalty after a check to Fast's head. She is the only Frost player to score tonight. Sceptres get a five-minute power play.
Sceptres 3 I Frost (minus Curl now) 1
Minnesota strikes back on the power play as Britta Curl-Salemme gets the Frost on the board.
Sceptres 3 I Frost 1
and again! Gosling scores her second of the night to give Toronto a three-to-zero lead.
Gosling also became the first rookie to score in the 2024-25 PWHL playoffs.
Julia Gosling nets another for the Sceptres, giving them a two goal lead over Minnesota.
After the first 20 minutes of PWHL playoff hockey,
Toronto: 1 Minnesota: 0
Blayre Turnbull strikes first in the PWHL playoffs, giving Toronto a 1-0 lead over Minnesota.
This is not a drill. Playoff hockey starts now.
Troy Ryan said he's been "holding the them to a higher expectation" all season to avoid the same result as last year.
Sceptres Allie Munroe said, "definitely a sour taste in my mouth from last year. So, want to do better for sure."
Sceptres Blayre Turnbull on the end of the season, "it definitely was different if you think back to last season. But as Troy said, this group hasn't focused too much on what last season was for us. We've all years found a way to focus on our season that we're playing in now."
Carla MacLeod on Gwyneth Philips "She's obviously very talented goalie as well, but she's just been able to really just take the reins and settle in."
Marie-Philip Poulin on Ann-Renée Desbiens, "to see Ann backing us up day in and day out in those games is unbelievable. Every time you see her back there, we have that confidence, that we can try a little bit more, and maybe she can bail us out on our own mistakes."
Montreal's Kori Cheverie said, "there was a lot of ups and downs in a league that is as competitive as it is, it continuously forces you to be at your best, to dive deeper, to navigate how to beat opponents who are working just as hard, to make adjustments to beat you."
Almost 2,000 people were on the livestream waiting to see who Montreal would face.
