Pollution forecast
- DEFRA UK Air - GOV.UK
Air pollution in London and the Southeast is extremely high right now which can harm kids and those with respiratory conditions such as asthma. Staying away from big roads that are extra polluted already (and ideally avoid adding more car or burning pollution). uk-air.defra.gov.uk/forecasting/

A Day 4 update from our #CleanAirCrowd.
The challenge was to have a conversation with a friend or someone you wouldn't normally talk to about #AirPollution.
Here's how some of them got on!

⚠️ Important London air pollution update for Friday 6 March.
⚠️ I’ve triggered a high pollution alert due to a forecast of particulate levels mainly caused by Saharan dust.
⚠️ Protect the most vulnerable by avoiding unnecessary car trips, engine idling and burning garden waste.

Responding to the DEFRA wood burning consultation — Mums for Lungs
Read our guidance on how to respond to DEFRA’s wood burning consultation - deadline 19th March. This is a critical moment to get your voice heard by the government.
The government is consulting on reducing emissions from burning right now. But the consultation does not match the health evidence. It deals with future emissions and will do nothing for the current situation that blights neighbourhoods.
Respond by 19th March asking for action on current burning!

Have you noticed the Saharan dust? It's not just about a coating on your car, or pretty colours in the sunset. It's about tiny particles in the air affecting our #Health.
The UK's #AirPollution grading system plays it down - "moderate" levels mean we're breathing in a LOT of pollution.

A window in a house, you can see a pink sticker in the glass, that says "Clean air, healthy kids". There is a plant on the windowsill.
It's Day 6 and we’ve loved seeing the energy from our #CleanAirCrowd this week! 🙌
Today’s challenge is simple: put our #CleanAir sticker in your window.
It’s a small action, but a visible sign that you care about #AirPollution and protecting children’s health. Awareness is how change begins.💥

The growing threat of domestic wood burning stoves—and industry’s legal attempts to shut down clean air campaigns
As public health officials warn about rising emissions from urban wood burning, a BMJ investigation finds that just under a third of councils in high use areas have faced pressure from the stove indus...
Industry should not be trying to stop councils from communicating the facts.
The health effects of burning are widely known.
Modern stoves are not the answer: some emit MORE tiny particles of soot, carbon and cancer-causing chemicals than older stoves.
Non-essential burning has to stop.

Lobbyists send legal threats to councils over anti-wood burner campaigns
At least eight councils receive legal threats alleging flyers criticising wood burners are in breach of advertising codes
"Straight from the playbook of tobacco".
The Stove Industry Association has been pressuring councils to tone down their public health campaigns, telling them they were exploring options for potential legal action.
This stinks even more than the burning they promote. #WoodBurning #AirPollution

New research has found that using “low-smoke” fuels results in a two to three-fold increase in ultrafine particle emissions.

It’s time to Electrify London
We’re campaigning in three key policy areas where we believe boroughs can make significant progress towards Electrifying London
⚡ It’s time to Electrify London ⚡
Road transport causes 28% of the city's CO₂ emissions and 42% of NOx. This is a major health and climate issue.
EVs aren't the whole answer - but we do need local parties to make switching to them easier.
Take action via @cleancitiescampaign.org 👇 .

Emails suggest German carmakers shifted timeline of Europe’s diesel cartel - Türkiye Today
Emails filed in the London High Court case show executives debating limits on urea dosing while preparing to justify decisions to regulators in the US and Europe
Meanwhile, internal emails appear to show Germany’s largest carmakers may have coordinated diesel emissions strategies earlier than previously assumed.
We understand these emails are only publicly available because of our third party intervention with @clientearth.bsky.social last year.

'Dieselgate2' trial resumes as 1.6m drivers face-off against car maker
A verdict is expected in the summer, with a secondary trial if car makers are found guilty to determine the level of compensation to be paid out.
Yesterday, the #Dieselgate trial reconvened in the High Court. Closing submissions will be made over the next three weeks, with a verdict in the Summer.
We're still breathing excess diesel emissions today because of this scandal - we need these vehicles off our roads. #AirPollution #Health
