@repchrispappas.bsky.social is 100% correct. Ever since the Citizens United decision, wealthy special interests have been secretly buying our elections. It's time to pass the DISCLOSE Act and close the floodgates of dark money.

Who benefits makes all the difference, though.

When I think about how much training data was used without getting consent from or compensating workers to enrich the ultra-wealthy, the CSAM it produces, & AI-related cognitive atrophy, I understand how God felt when He gazed upon the Tower of Babel

What Does Russia Have on Trump? Americans Deserve an Answer As Russia reportedly shares intelligence with Iran that could endanger American forces, the White House chooses to ease pressure on Moscow instead of confronting it.

Ukraine offers to help defend the West from Iranian drones.

Russia helps Iran track American forces.

And the White House eases sanctions on Russian oil.

Explain that to the families of U.S. troops. My latest:

When a nation loses care & concern for children, a nation becomes irredeemable.

Small men wage endless wars because they are looking to profit, while it costs innocent lives.

We will not tolerate Trump's callous disregard for human life. The war in Iran must come to an end NOW.

So far the war in Iran has cost an estimated $5.5 billion.

That's roughly $1 billion per day.

$41,666,667 per hour.

$11,574 per second.

People do not want this.

They want a living wage. They want healthcare. They want to be able to afford a home. They want their basic needs met.

Other things the U.S. government do with $50 billion taxpayer dollars:
—Clear the medical debt of 20 million Americans
—House every homeless veteran 113 times
—Prevent 6.2 million Americans from being kicked off Medicaid
—Buy the entire state of Nevada a late model Toyota Corolla

I'm teaching about early 20th century eugenics today and was reminded that 9 years ago Republican Representative Steve King was stripped of his committee assignments by his GOP colleagues for this post that simply states what is now bog standard GOP policy/rhetoric on immigration and "civilization."

Screenshot of excerpt from opinion that reads:

"Despite this, the New York courts refused to stay the trial court’s order. After that highly questionable injunction was issued, the applicants filed appeals in both the Appellate Division (the State’s intermediate appellate court) and the Court of Appeals (its highest court) challenging the trial court’s order on federal constitutional grounds. At the same time, applicants asked both courts to stay the trial court’s order. The Appellate Division refused to issue a stay, and by order issued on February 11, the Court of Appeals sent the appeal filed in that court to the Appellate Division and dismissed applicants’ motions for a stay."

With nowhere else to turn, the applicants asked us to issue a stay, and we have jurisdiction to entertain their application. Title 28 U. S. C. §1257(a) gives us jurisdiction to review “[f]inal judgments or decrees” that are rendered by a State’s highest court and adjudicate federal constitutional claims, and the Court of Appeals’ February 11 order falls
within that category.

1/9: In the New York redistricting case, Justice Alito's justification for why #SCOTUS even had *jurisdiction* to issue a stay is based upon a remarkably misleading portrayal of the state court proceedings.

I realize this is technical, but I wanted to write a short thread to explain the shadiness:
