Hey, alongside contacting your representatives, this seems like another thing worth putting a bit of your time into and sharing around. If we could get "reputational risk" taken off the table, even in this current climate, that could create a chilling effect on these kinds of policies

Dark red horns and eyebrow ridges adorn her head and face and red scales cover most of her body from the neck down. A red scaled tail lashes to one side. Falon is wearing plate armor that is spattered with her own blood, and several deep gashes have been cut into her neck. She holds two bloodied scimitars at the ready as she glares back at Venearys, a ghostly snowy back drop just visible behind her.

I've done a lot of lobbying and a lot of activism. It seems stupid, it seems pointless, it seems ineffectual, but phone calls are one of the few things that legislative offices really pay attention to as a barometer for public opinion.
Call early and call often.
Publishing a book also requires a certain amount of cognitive dissonance because you have to be your own biggest fan and hypeman, and simultaneously be extremely neutral about your book, in case people (esp family/friends) don’t like it or don’t read it.
I know calling reps is very nerve racking. You're not sure what's the right thing to say, and tbh having a script thrown at me makes things just as nerve racking.
I called today, and I figured I'd write up a transcript of how my call went down. Hopefully it helps demystify the process
im still working toward my own, but being supportive of your friends and peers, being kind, even when you are feeling the pangs of professional or personal jealousy (we all feel it.) goes a long way

Speaking about your own feelings of disapproval can be helpful to avoid that issue. But ofc situational awareness is key
And if you miss your moment--learn for next time. Make a plan. Maybe have a follow up conversation afterward. Of course, if you're confronting the aggressor, don't try to speak for the person affected.
And it was almost always other women/AFAB people who looked out for me. My male friends and peers almost never spoke up. It's easy to freeze up in the moment, I get it. But speaking up does make a world of difference.
LRP: This is the kind of stuff that starts early. For me, it started all the way back in highschool, and plenty of my AFAB friends experienced the same.
