Male fiddler crabs wave their outsized claw to attract female mates and now Beth Mortimer & co have discovered that the crabs also beat the sand with their claws and carapaces, producing the loudest sand vibrations when using both strategies

The darkness makes some animals bolder, but artificially illuminating our nights makes animals more visible and venture out less. Recently Dissegna & Chiandetti showed that brighter nights make even tiny animals like woodlice hesitate before moving about
