Presenting Our First Sample Course Syllabus: Introduction to Science Writing - The Open Notebook
We're excited to announce a new resource for journalism teachers, students, and professionals. Whether youโre officially enrolled or a student at heart, this free resource rounds up years of insights ...
Science journalists often learn the tricks of the trade by trial and error. But we firmly believe the basics of covering science, and covering it well, can also be taught. So, weโve rounded up years of insights from The Open Notebook into an easy-to-reference sample course syllabus. And itโs free! ๐งช

Major research funding cuts in the US are also affecting popular science YouTube channels, which relied on the small segment of funding budgets that were set aside for outreach. (Well, "small" for the funders, but a big part of income for YouTube channels) #scicomm www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQjF...

Whatโs the greatest travesty in lab work right now?
Hardworking, pregnant women in STEM are quite literally stitching together lab coats of different sizes just to have something that allows them to work in the lab into their 3rd trimesters.
Whyโฆ?
Because thereโs not a single maternity lab coat available right now. But we can fix that.
When we say science is for everyone, we mean it. Itโs a small market, but we just canโt force women to choose between a family and a STEM career. Just like the original Lab Coat Project, weโre starting with a survey. The survey is for:
* Women who wear lab coats and may start a family soon
* Women who wear lab coats and went through a pregnancy while working in a lab
* Anyone who has witnessed a woman struggling with lab coats during a pregnancy and would like to share their feedback secondhand
Take the 8-minute Google Forms survey now.
And most importantly - share this with a friend! Weโll need at least 100 responses and interested women to launch this. Forward this email or repost/retweet our recent announcements on social media:

Lab scientists! Anyone who is, or might become, pregnant โ take a look at this ๐
The lovely people at Genius Lab Gear are investigating maternity coats. Not being able to close your lab coat over a bump is a genuine health and safety issue. Please share or/and fill in the survey (link below)
