Iran struck a U.S. Patriot air defense site in the United Arab Emirates.

Sharaa, who led the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in late 2024, has survived multiple foiled IS plots, including five reported last year per UN sources.

🇺🇦 Ukraine returned 200 people from Russian captivity yesterday, and another 300 today. Among them are members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, and the State Border Guard Service. Most of them had been held in captivity for more than a year, some since 2022.

The Oskil and Donets front benefits from the rivers and is therefore better protected, while the other fronts are secondary, even though there has been a significant reinforcement of defenses.

To reach them, the Russian army would first have to reach the Vovosha River and then cross it, which gives the Ukrainians time. In the Donbas, reinforcements are underway at Dobropilla, as well as Kramatorsk and Sloviansk. The Ukrainians continue to add new lines in the rear.

I think Orikhiv will be one of the main objectives of the Russian army this year, along with Kostiantynivka, Lyman and Druzhkivka.

The Pavlohrad sector is seeing the most construction; there are new lines everywhere!

I am not very confident about the Novomykolaivka-Hulialpilski line, which was created hastily, has only two anti-tank ditches and has a vulnerability to the south with the possibility of bypassing it along the 2024 defense line.

It will take approximately two weeks to a month to establish an effective line in the sector. This also allows time to reinforce the defenses at Novomykolaivka.

Engineers brought enough materials to lay three to four rows of barbed wire (!) behind the single ditch in front of the town, which is itself protected by the Vovosha River, and two more rows at regular intervals.

Regarding the official announcements of fortification of Odessa and its region, it has not started yet.

The Russian withdrawal in the Pokrovsk region allowed the Ukrainians to resume work last week, preparing a defensive line around the town.

Given the immense resources put at hand (the photos show thousands of men on the job), it is clear that we are dealing with the main Ukrainian defensive strategy.

In total, I think that around 500 excavators are at work, some of them on huge projects (the line surrounding Pavlohrad for example, the one linking the city of Chernihiv to Sumy as well...)

The Ukrainian army 🇺🇦 is pursuing a relentless campaign to fortify the entire national territory.

In the coming weeks, Ukrainian defense lines could look like this in the east of the country (image 1). The Russian army is generally positioned between 10 and 20 km from the first reinforced lines.
