Hi, all! My turn for #revpit #MeetTheEditor. :)

I am a RevPit Board Member, and I've been involved with RevPit for a while now, whether offering runners-up prizes or being an editor for the Annual Contests.

I'll share a bit about myself in the thread below. Feel free to ask questions!

Hi #WritingCommunity! Welcome to my #RevPit #MeetTheEditor thread. Feel free to ask questions at any time (if I don't get to them today, I will tomorrow). I had a computer incident earlier (OneDrive deleted my Documents & it took my hubby hours to fix), so I lost my prep time & this may be choppy.

Interesting subject isn’t it? I’m proceeding with the idea that it’s okay to not be able to write everything as long as you make your choices consciously

03.03.2026 20:56 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

πŸ˜€I’m hopeless at poetry so your ballads won’t get any feedback but I’m game for the rest

03.03.2026 20:52 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I’m forgiving for complex choreography but if the physics of simple things like running and climbing are wrong I DNF

03.03.2026 20:50 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Absolutely!
In the first five pages I want a character solving a problem in their own unique way

03.03.2026 20:47 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Upper MG: 12-14 year old protagonist; 60-80k word count
For MG I like both magical realism and second world but for adult I prefer second world

03.03.2026 20:08 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

As a reader it does but I don’t think I’d be the right editor for this project

03.03.2026 20:04 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Yes absolutely!

I’m perfectly okay with high word count. In fact I prefer books around 100k. For practical reasons though 120k will be my limit for this contest but after you can send me anything

03.03.2026 18:09 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I’d be happy to read adult fantasy. Both lighthearted and epic. Thanks for the question !

03.03.2026 17:47 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Oh yes. YA fantasy is my favorite to read. Sorry about the mixup :)

03.03.2026 17:01 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Neutral. I don't gravitate to them, but if they hit enough of my other likes, I'm happy to read.

03.03.2026 16:39 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Basically, if the major driver for the plot makes me think about specific issues in our current society, I'm no longer thinking about the story. E.g., when I read a book set in medeval Spain, I'm thinking about how Muslims were persecuted. Hope that helps.

03.03.2026 16:31 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Thanks for the question. I get invested in a fantasy world when I read a well-crafted scene that incorporates worldbuilding organically. When the author explores one element and all the ways it affects the character and the rest of the world.

03.03.2026 16:20 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Ah, that's a good question. I like the occasional near future book as long as the story focuses on the characters interacting. My main turnoff with real-world settings is that I keep getting kicked out of the story because things are too close to home. Your description sounds intriguing.

I want to hear from you. Drop any questions you have in this thread and I'll answer them. #RevPit #Meettheeditor

We Don't Talk About Bias - Writing Power Up Bias is a difficult topic, especially for writers. I share some of the things that helped me on my journey.

My motto: I will work with what's on the page; no tropes, no preconceived notions of how I think stories should be told. It's all about your vision.

Random things I like (but not necessary):

Nuanced character relationships
Multi-POV
Strong worldbuilding
Inclusion of mental health

I like stories with steady pacing. I want something to change in each chapter, whether that's a "big" plot reveal or a "small" character shifts (the quotes are there because I don't consider anything in a story small; if it works, it's all big).
