But: in the last six months I have seen and experienced examples of large productivity gains from coding agents. It sparks joy: performs menial work (example: upgrade a 5 year old React app), performs a spec-to-feature addition to an existing project, creates a well-specified tool from scratch. 2/3
I find it important to retain curiosity and openness to AI coding. Too many people dismiss this technology and yes, it is easy to do that: there is lots of low-quality examples to point to, easy to point to risks of de-skilling or loss of good engineering practices, etc. All acknowledged. 1/2
