i was on such a good schedule and the rain ended me. next week not looking much better

i was in flushing the other day and had one of those chinese bingfen type desserts with a bit of condensed milk and jelly or whatever and that's the closest i've got so far

every time i open bluesky i accumulate anywhere from a dozen to a hundred more followers while doing exactly nothing. everywhere else the american dream of number go up forever is dead but not here

i respect that they're trying stuff like the detach qt feature which does add friction even if the underlying post is still there but yeah lock/unlock is usually a critical way of pumping the brakes on virality. i can think of other minor mitigations but none very good

i think it's a fun project and it's totally possible nothing bad ever happens but my feeling is that nobody in charge has really theorized out all the possibilities and designed with that in mind and it makes me cautious

it's also different from blogs in the sense that every interaction is autopiped into a maximally easily accessible nicely formatted public stream. this lowers the activation barrier for both fun and abusive uses significantly

a lot of very stupid comparisons are being made to blogs rn as if this isn't a service designed specifically to mimic an existing product that invites highly personal high volume constant stream of consciousness posting the privacy concerns are different from ur blog about react native lol

bluesky's problem is many people who care a lot about decentralized infrastructure are not very good at thinking about interface design or social psychology lol like getting mad that average people don't have good norms around open protocols is so silly

it's completely open public network that permits stuff like that by design someone's gonna do it. like i wouldn't ever advise anyone to post pictures of themselves on here

ive been on here for over a year and a half

whenever i open this app i feel a slight baseline unease that someone eventually is going to do something w the protocol that makes a lot of people really uncomfortable

can't use this website until they have better notification controls
