Poor Fatima.
Truly a symbol of our dysfunctional age.
Grocery store sign of bagel that reads: pick your own. Part of the sign is obscured to look like it reads: fuck your own
Relax, bread department
I really hope this works - great for the region and UK in general. Also a great advert for how Geology and Geologists can have a really positive impact on shaping our Green Future π§ͺβοΈ

Not in the Epstein files:
- trans people
- migrants and asylum seekers
- people who arrive in small boats
- benefits claimants
In the Epstein files:
- rich white guys who tell you (or pay people to tell you) to hate the people above
I do not know what to do with the information that Pauline Oliveros has 17,002 monthly Spotify listeners.
Punk 13yo, quite incensed:"Harry Styles ruined men wearing dresses - imagine if he'd worn good dresses, everyone would be at it now, but he didn't, he wore terrible dresses.
Photograph from 1911 taken by Herbert Ponting whilst with Scott's Antarctic Expedition The monochrome photo is taken from within a cave. The walls of the cave are made of ice. The cave entrance is in the mid distance with two figures standing looking out towards a distant ship. Between them and the ship there is first a 'beach' of ice before the sea itself. The ship could be up to 800 metres away What makes the photo so special is that where the figures are at the cave entrance there is a band of very white snow and ice (contrasting with the comparatively dark inside of the cave) that creates a stark framework in which the men and the ship are captured. It is made even more dramatic by the fact that the cave entrance is at least 30 metres high and is in the shape of a distorted elipse with the tail sloping off to the right at the top of the elipse The photo being in monochrome in a largely white environment makes the photographers skill all the more laudable
This photo was taken in 1911 using glass plate technology by Herbert Ponting who was part of Scott's Antarctic expedition,
The composition and detail are exquisite with the band of white snow/ice creating a perfect frame around the two people and the ship in the distance
Iconic imo
Ah says not available for me to watch π₯²
I'm travelling from Surrey to Brighton via Gatwick, no issues

JAMES MERRILL CHRISTMAS TREE From loes torn hamin Had been fed, looked after, kept still, Meant, I knewβ of course I knew - That it would be only a matter of weeks, That there was nothing more to do. Warmly they took me in, made much of me, The point from the start was to keep my spirits up. I could assent to that. For honestly, It did help to be wound in jewels, to send Their colors flashing forth from vents in the deep Fragrant sables that cloaked me head to foot. Over me then they wove a spell of shining β Purple and silver chains, eavesdripping tinsel, Amulets, milagros: software of silver, A heart, a little girl, a Model T Two staring eyes. Then angels, trumpets, BUD and BEA (The children's names) in clownlike capitals, Somewhere a music box whose tiny song Played and replayed I ended before long By loving. And in shadow behind me, a primitive IV To keep the show going. Yes, yes, what lay ahead Was clear: the stripping, the cold street, my chemicals Plowed back into the Earth for lives to come β No doubt a blessing, a harvest, but one that doesn't bear, Now or ever, dwelling upon. To have grown so thin. Needles and bone. The little boy's hands meeting About my spine. The mother's voice: Holding up wonderfully! No dread. No bitterness. The end beginning. Today's Dusk room aglow For the last time With candlelight. Faces love-lit, Gifts underfoot. Still to be so poised, so Receptive. Still to recall, to praise.
James Merrilβs poem βChristmas Tree,β written while he was dying of AIDS. 1995.

Just a beautiful fold!! I hope even non-geologists can appreciate the beauty of what pressure can do to a rock. #FoldFriday #GeoscienceBluesky βοΈπ§ͺ

Pylons for life.
Oh to be a goose shitting everywhere honking at anything that comes near me
We're watching the wholesale burning of every scrap of dignity afforded to trans people in the UK, their rights, their medical services, their employment, their place within society, their bodily functions.
It is a disgrace, and a disgusting stain on the government and media of this country.
This update includes information you may find upsetting. Please take care when reading. From today, it is with a heavy heart that we announce trans girls will no longer be able to join Girlguiding. This is a decision we would have preferred not to make, and we know that this may be upsetting for members of our community. There will be no immediate changes for current young members, but more information will be shared soon. Most adult roles - including unit helpers, district helpers and administrative support - are already open to all, so we are confident that no volunteers will have to leave the organisation. Girlguiding believes strongly in inclusion, and we will continue to support young people and adults in marginalised groups. Over the next few months, we will explore opportunities to champion this value and actively support young people who need us. We stand in solidarity with trans girls and women.
i hope every single person who still buys harry potter merch or engages with that franchise is happy that they're literally making girl guides cry
girl guides uk have been forced very much against their will to exclude trans girls. full statement is here: www.girlguiding.org.uk/information-...
Also probably worth mentioning I'm in the UK
Oh my hearts definitely in it, and coming from a fine arts background the job market surely can't be as bad. π If anything I'll be used to it
This thread makes me sad. I'm so glad I didn't read it before starting my degree!

I still have whole body shivers every time I listen to BGC. His recent show in Hackney brought me to tears and I am ecstatic I'll get another chance at Rewire festival in April. Absolutely unreal talent.
Strong recommendation if you are looking for a gorgeous communion in grief and connection. π€
Happy Thanksgiving #geology
