Think about how stupid Trump's Department of Soldiers is to not know that. There will be a person in charge change but not a 'regime change' as we think of it.

Think about how old their government is. They have layers of plan, contingencies for any scenario. There are set actions, as in if this happens do this. If it doesn't happen do this.They can wait to elect someone. I will not have an impact on their participation in the action.

This is the difference between Thomas and many people my age. When I was born, my mother's older brother had been killed in WWII and there were still people trying to find his remains. Knowing that, even though I was a child, made war very real and the damage it does very personal.
