If you've done much research into the "art" of the query letter, you may have noticed many (often conflicting) recommendations. However, if you look at some successful query samples, you’ll find many of them break a “rule” or two.

I like it. There's too much about book blurbs that feels like a popularity contest. A book's quality shouldn't be judged based on an author's connections. And from a mktg lens, it also assumes readers are idiots and don't know how to judge by themselves whether or not a book is for them.

The Dewey Decimal System used to only have two classifications for Black people: 325 (colonization) & 326 (slavery). Each book by a Black person was put into one of these classifications. A book of poetry? Classified as colonization.

Here’s a small fact.

The Latin name for red coloring was ‘minium.'

The corresponding verb meaning "to color with minium" was ‘miniare.’

It was later broadened to mean “decorate a manuscript.”

'Miniatura,’ was used to refer to the adding of illustrations to a manuscript.
