As he struck down a tent, Jaxen and Talyx strode past him, and Jaxen said, “I wonder why Korrin missed the performance planning meeting.” Talyx chuckled as she replied, “Did you see Finn while we were leaving? He smashed the mirror of fortune.” Jaxen gasped and brought an exaggerated hand to his mouth. “Yeah,” Talyx’s chuckle was coarse. “Should be an interesting night.” “I mean, is he okay? Nobody’s seen him since last night,” Jaxen said. “He always does this when he’s found a new trick for his performance. He’s probably just working on a new act,” Talyx responded, and then they were out of earshot. Ætheren continued about his work. So Korrin and Finn were fighting again. That was nothing new

As I look around, there’s a couple, maybe in their early twenties, arguing. I watch them out of the corner of my eye, listening to them bicker. Over shopping. You would think listening to them that one of them murdered the other one’s entire family. I’ve become acutely aware of couples around me, particularly the ones who are fighting. I can’t help but wonder if one of them dies if the other one would remember what they were fighting so passionately about. Being dragged along to check out the new fall fashions instead of being able to sit at home and watch the game? At the end of the day, was it worth it? I hate those couples more than I hate the happy ones holding hands and melting into each other’s eyes, completely oblivious to the heartache and tragedy around them. More than the jealousy that envelopes me when trapped near one of those vomit inducing couples, I find myself overwhelmed with anger for the ones taking each other so much for granted. I want to shake them, to tell them that it really doesn’t matter if they’re watching the game or trying on velour jogging suits. All that mattered is that they get to be with each other at all.

Toren The failure hadn’t had time to sink in as the ship lurched upwards. He staggered as gravity asserted itself. The best bet was to be sat down for this he knew, but he’d spotted something, so he forced his way across the vibrating deck plates, scooping up his wrench as he went, quickly checking for damage. All good. When he reached the wall, he braced himself. Sure enough a small metallic object was being bounced around. It made a slight high pitched squealing sound every time it hit the metal as wheels attempted to find purchase. He knew he’d have to be quick. Shimmying up the wall, struggling to keep his footing, he reached out, the deck made a jarring lurch, the metal lump, a mouse bot, flew into the air. He swiped, missed, then dove out, catching the falling thing before it hit the ground. The defense mechanism lit up almost instantly, the semi-transparent casing strobed blue in his hands, wheels spinning, burning his palms. He held on, flipped the evil thing over and flipped the kill switch. “Cheap ass junk,” he said triumphantly, before he found himself airborne again.

Okay so I got one from the original short that the full novel 'Statues Erode' emerged from. It's terrible, but no edits, so uh....enjoy 😬 😂
