Bikes taking a full lane makes sense on a 25 MPH residential street. On a 50 MPH stroad, it's an abdication of responsibility from the traffic engineering department that will result in dead and injured cyclists. The city must invest in protected bike lanes for such stroads.

On the supply side, yes (in my back yard) we need to bring back SRO's, legalize cooperative housing (shared kitchens, laundry), and eliminate parking minima. On the demand side, we also need to empower landlords to remove antisocial (drug use, abusive) tenants to foster a secure urban fabric.

I love it, except for the placement of the plates in front of the books. Books yearn to be free, to tempt you to browse and pick them up without having to worry about moving a big, fragile porcelain plate out of the way just to see them.
