listen i love ao3 as much as the next guy but ive seen people quit fic writing over the past few years because people comment and engage with authors way less, and then everyone still freaks out when ao3 goes down- if a fic is irreplaceable to u, let the author know!

The water dragon creature is a person, and it's hard to have a conversation at first because human language doesn't fit in her mouth (hard to make some sounds without big fleshy lips) and also she bit and poisoned him, but they work out a decent arrangement

been making a bunch of new OCs lately. Newest one is a Sad Ex-Agent (spy, thief, assassin etc. as needed) who got a new lease on life after a Huge Water Dragon Thingy did NOT kill him even when it could/should and he realised he could do nicer things with his life

If youβre a (new) writer and havenβt heard or taken the advice that you should read your work aloud to yourself, just go and listen to some well-written audiobooks and compare them to some not-so-well written ones.

Photo of a Townsend's Solitaire perched at the top of a juniper by Charles Gates. Text on the photo says "Unsolicited Bird Fact: If Townsend's Solitaires drank cocktails, their drink of choice would probably be a gin and tonic. During the winter they eat almost exclusively juniper berries. During the breeding season, solitaires move into higher elevation (or latitude) coniferous forests where they feed primarily on insects.
If we knew anything we'd make a gin and name it after these elegant birds.
Did you ask for a bird fact? No, but you're getting one whether you like it or not. πͺΆ

If you're doomscrolling, guess what? So far there are 51 kΔkΔpΕ chicks hatched and thriving this season, the same number of birds as we had in TOTAL in the 90s! Only one chick has died and there are still fertile eggs waiting to hatch!

Re-creating the complex cuisine of prehistoric Europeans
SEM analysis of pottery residues showed people combined fish with a wide variety of plants when cooking.
Archaeologists are keen to learn more about the diets and culinary practices of ancient populations around the globe, and by examining the residues on prehistoric ceramic pots (and doing a bit of hands-on cooking), they're getting closer.

Three characters from the 'Vikings' TV series, wearing a variety of impractical-looking dark leather outfits with various gridded elements, arbitrary straps, and decorative panelling.
Three dark leather lawn chairs made of interwoven leather and gridded panelling.
One of our survey respondents characterised present-day popular viking outfits as 'lawn chair armour', and there is frankly no better description out there.

Sketches of reptilian creatures with four arms. One has arms that start as single limbs from the shoulders but split in two at the first joint. Each of these second arms has an elbow and ends in a four-fingered hand. The upper hand's thumb points up and the lower hand's tumb points down. The other creature has wings like a bat or pteranodon, which split into two limbs at the elbow. One limb continues to be the wing, while the other limb is an arm pointing back up towards the body, that ends in a wrist and two opposing fingers/claws. The sketches are drawn in black pen on a small spiral-bound flip notebook.
What if a lizard had REALLY weird arms

A young king vulture standing on a white table, his head cocked upside down, looking at the viewer.
Are vultures cute?
Yes, and yes. Yes they are.
Yolo is showing off his newly colored beak, shifting towards orange. His full transition to bright king vulture adult colors will take about five years! πͺΆ
