I'm very upset about this because everybody cheering means IT WORKED. He shuffled people around, didn't actually fire ANYONE, increased the "war" budget by however much her new salary is, and we're BUYING this? This is not a victory. This is a distraction. Do not fall for it.

Are we under any illusions that this dude is going to be *any* better? From where I sit, a brand new job was just created that is likely going to add still more harm to the world, and the person taking her old job is still appointed by the same guy who majors in casual cruelty and machismo.
I mean, we have no idea if her pay is lower. I assume her benefits and vacation days, etc. remain unchanged. And now she's going to be working with security for the Western Hemisphere. Is this really something to *cheer*? And one more thing...
I really think the bar is so low for wanting to see consequences for incompetence and cruelty--ANY consequences--that we have forgotten the meanings of words. "Fired," for instance. It means "no longer has a job."

I tell my students when picking topics for our intro to public speaking course to start with something that activates their inner nerd, and then think about ways to hook the audience in. Making it directly relevant to the audience is one way. It is by no means the *only* way.
