NEW: A Level 4 out of 5 severe weather risk has been introduced in the red zone across portions of north central Illinois and adjacent western Indiana.
Several tornadoes, including a couple strong and/or long -track, are expected.
An UPGRADED tornado risk has occurred in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana. If you live between Galesburg, Peoria, Kankakee, Bloomington, Champaign, Rochester or Renssalaer, Indiana, please review your severe weather plan ASAP!
I have been unable to find any sort of memorial or donation resource for the final deceased victim, 12-year-old Silas Anderson from Edwardsburg, MI.
If anyone can share that link here, I'll add it to the thread, along with any other crowdfunding for the countless other victims!
TIA, everyone. π
Todd and Becky McClellan also lost their lives this last weekend, in the EF3 tornado that impacted the west side of Beggs, Oklahoma. The community mourns their loss, while aiding their son, Ace, who is still in the hospital healing from critical injuries sustained in the same storm.
Pennie Jo Guthrie, 65, was the third victim of the Union City EF3+. She leaves behind a surviving step-mother, five children, and countless grandchildren. Donations in her memory can be sent via the funeral home's donation portal.
Bill Akers, 63, lost his life in the same Union City twister, and all proceeds honoring his life have been requested to go to the local tornado relief and recovery fund, sponsored by the Branch County United Way.
Keri Johnson lost her life in the Union City, Michigan EF3+ that tore through the small village. She leaves behind her husband, Scott Johnson, who also lost his entire home and all of his belongings.
Jodie and Lexi Owens were the mother and daughter who lost their lives near Fairview, OK, when an EF2 tornado tossed their vehicle off of US Route 60. They leave behind a loving husband/father and 7 children/siblings.
To the good folk of BlueSky: Before the next wave of severe weather hits tomorrow, I want to take a moment and share a few vetted fundraisers and charities accepting donations for the families of the March 5th-7th tornado outbreak victims in Michigan and Oklahoma.
Thread!
Another vantage point of the Union City, Michigan tornado, filmed by a local technician, Mitchell Hart.
We do not recommend ever getting this close to a twister...

a car with a busted back windshield sits on a slabbed foundation with debris and broken trees clustered around it
a slabbed foundation with debris littered about sits on the shores of a small woodland lake. The skeleton of a fireplace is the only thing still in tact on the foundation

I absolutely see the parallels between them, yeah! Skip Talbot's footage is some of my favorite tornado media of recent times.

Agreed. Local first responders are reporting multiple fatalities now, too. Absolutely heartbreaking.
A frozen lake and dead trees surround a completely destroyed neighborhood. Flattened homes and their respective debris piles are scattered across the shore. Firetrucks and other emergency vehicles are parked adjacent to the impact zone.
Here's a photo of the neighborhood destroyed in the first video above., showing single-family homes flattened to piles of debris.

Before the Union City hit, a tornado in Three Rivers, MI. was filmed out of vehicle. It yanks up an row of storage units like they're pebbles.
Well said!
Multiple fatalities reported homes swept clean and possibly trees debarked.
This likely violent #tornado occurred in a 2% risk likely due to a boundary interaction.
This is the perfect example of why no matter what risk the SPC has highlighted for you you should ALWAYS be weather aware!

And here I was complaining about a loud thunderstorm that interrupted a work meeting when this was going on to the southwest of us. This is an early start to tornado season. Time to make sure the emergency kits are ready.
Observational evidence for the use of a semi-slip lower boundary condition in idealized tornado models.
Agreed! BlueSky could be an incredible source for breaking wx news if enough of us keep it active!
Here's a second view of the same Union City twister. Notice the horizontal vortices on the right side of the funnel.

Todayβs tornado damage in Michigan (level 1 Marginal) is a reminder you donβt have to be in the highest risk level area to get aπͺοΈ. Other states have higher level 2 Slight & 3 Enhanced risk.

This storm went very tornadic right as it hit the surface warm front where there was substantial shear in the lowest 1km (veering from a SW to SE to E flow).
The storm has since crossed into the cold air north of the front.
Look at all the ice on the water!

If you look closely, youβll also see Reed Timmerβs vehicle on the right shoulder. This video came moments after the tornado made contact with the Dominator and spun it off-course.
Stormchaser Brad Arnold captured this incredible shot of the drill-bit twister that struck northern Alabama earlier this evening.
Whoever decided to run a region-wide software update at the NWS the same day the impacted region deals with projected severe weather and legitimate potential for tornadoes needs to answer for this.

π¨ Tornado warnings in Tennessee today arenβt coming from NWS Nashville β theyβre being issued by backup offices in Morristown, TN and Fort Worth, TX. Weather radios are also down. A software upgrade may be the cause. Weβre following up for more details. #TNwx #Tornado
I canβt find the original filming credit so if anyone knows who caught this one, let me know!
