i "only" soaked my beans for 9 hours, and "only" simmered the pot for 5 hours. it came out really well, but i'd definitely do a longer soak and a lower simmer if i had the time & equipment! (i'm currently working with an unfancy hot plate, which doesn't hold a low simmer well)

signs i was gonna wind up writing/editing: growing up, i'd finish a new book and immediately go back to the beginning and start over to see how everything worked
