Glad you and your friends enjoy the game so much. Molly is definitely an intriguing character!

Sure, before the First Flare, there would have been a few local constables, probably on rotation from the Mainland. They would be set up to access remote locations, using floatplanes, 4 wheelers, ski-dos, etc.
Not a dumb question at all!

I don't want to belabour this but the "should" isn't the issue, it's the "one of the biggest errors in video games was when a bunch of people decided, apropos of nothing" that's the issue. There's no cabal of people who decide this stuff for other devs or for players. These are both valid choices.
Sure, but I'm not the one making the argument or claim.
No, I don't think storage was a consideration here. At least not in the games I'm talking about.
But it did work well, for myself and tons of other people. And continues to work well. So "it didn't work well for me" is not really an argument either. It's just an opinion. And you know what they say about opinions...
Ok -- I guess I missed the part where anyone said that was true or needed to be that way vs. some devs feeling that was a better approach. So your hardline framing feels like a choice you have made to set up an argument that doesn't really exist vs. something you are responding to. Who said this?
Provide a real reason. Saying it's a terrible idea because you don't like it is not a real argument.
Because it didn't work for you must mean it's a bad idea? Come on. You can do better than that.
Saying this choice is one of the "biggest errors in video games" seems unnecessary, and isn't backed by the success of these games. They work for lots of people, for the exact reasons they were designed to be effective.
(Keep in mind I make a FP game with voiced protagonists.)
Certainly subjective. It worked well for two Half-Life games, a bunch of Far Cry games, etc.
I don't agree there are hard rules about this and I also don't agree the reasons they were originally done were arbitrary. It's no different than the reasons why survival games work better in first-person.
Not sure I agree with you on this one.
Chances of a silent protagonist pulling me out of a role or experience due to a poorly written or delivered voice line: 0
Chance of a voiced protagonist doing the same: Much higher than 0.
IMO either approach can work if it's done well.
Agreed.
100% agree!
Hmm, ok. The Friendly Dumpster can sometimes help in that situation but yeah I'm not sure what you would do if you were stuck without a critical resource. Frustrating!
Not sure what particular issue you ran into, but you do have to select a location on the big map (Route Planner?) before you can leave. Did you try that?
Quickly found this...seems like a lot of folks ran into this issue:

Amazing game. One of my absolute faves of the last 5 yrs.
I mean that is a promo shot, not in-game, but the art direction is the same.
Amazing news.
"We pushed things to the extreme" and "the ESRB didn't ask us to remove anything" are incompatible statements.
Get some keys. Make some beautiful TLD content folks. Episode Five is nearly here.
(and yes re: Janky and Tough -- OG Stalker player over here)
Oh yeah wow I remember seeing this pop up last year and then it kind of disappeared from my brain. It has a great look. Will check it out when I have some time.
Same to you, Ben!
Looks absolutely stunning!
(Sorry, meant "I'm not sure...", since this type of shooter is generally not to my tastes. Add me to the chorus of voices screaming "but single-player please!")
I'm sure I will play this game, but the art direction is *next level*.
Do you know how hard it is to come up with something this distinct?
Should mail?
Spent FAR too much time on this screen when I should have been doing homework instead.
(I guess it worked out ok for me. ๐
