Thanks very much @mwgehring.bsky.social!
The farmersβ lawsuit in Switzerland βis interesting because it is turning the tables on this framing by arguing that farmers can also be the victims of climate change,β says Emily Bradeen, a policy analyst at @granthamlse.bsky.social. @cohelongo.bsky.social
The ECtHR's 2024 climate cases were decidedly dogmatic concerning extraterritorial jurisdiction. Lea Raible analyzes this - and its interplay with positive obligations - in the first article of our upcoming special issue on the climate rulings, co-edited by Armando Rocha & @cohelongo.bsky.social.
Dear friends, dear colleagues, after receiving multiple inquiries about the venue of our pre-conference workshop, we are sharing the information about our decision to proceed with the organization of our event. We are also extending the deadline to submit your abstracts to April 27 π¨
Happy one-year anniversary to the most on-point text I ever sent (well, wrong about the art. 13 issue - but close enough)
Really happy with this piece and grateful to @esrademir.bsky.social, @jtheilen.bsky.social, and BaΕak ΓalΔ± for putting the overall project together and creating such a fun and constructive space to think in.
" This judgment is accordingly not a revolution, but an (important) extension of existing doctrines" - from @cohelongo.bsky.social on how the @echr.coe.int treats environmental pollution cases as opposed to climate change claims - strasbourgobservers.com/2025/03/11/v...
This is good - there were worries that Switzerland, which has pushed back strongly (and very problematically) against the judgment, would manage to get this process closed again as soon as it started. Instead, looks like the Council of Europe and the other States want to see more from Switzerland.
and its reliance on a quantification, through a carbon budget or otherwise, of national greenhouse gas emissions limitations. It also requests more information on adaptation measures and procedural safeguards by the next supervisory meeting (September).
The decision, voted on by representatives of the Council of Europe Member State governments, notes recent legislative changes, but still want to see more details of domestic measures, namely on: the draft CO2 ordinance; the domestic methodology behind the legislative and administrative framework;
In it, the Ministersβ Deputies rejected Switzerlandβs arguments that theyβve completed the implementation of the judgment already, and that no further monitoring is needed (whew!).
So far, so good! The Committee of Ministersβs interim decision on the implementation of the KlimaSeniorinnen judgment is out. search.coe.int/cm?i=0900001...

Iβm convinced thereβs only one correct way to prepare for oneβs first-ever @mpil.de Dienstagsrunde - and thatβs Kaffee und Kuchen
Well thatβs a relief
Did Putin write this?
I signed this letter, reflecting on the difference it makes to have a secure contract and channeling @marinavelickovic.bsky.social in Critical Legal Thinking about what we do when βthe discipline you are hoping will accept you will only do so in exchange for your silence at the dinner tableβ.
This is so outrageous I actually had to double check it was real. What an unintentionally clear window into why all kinds of people dislike and distrust mainstream media institutions.

Truly grim news from Cardiff
I don't often miss the bad place but today I found out a conservative Swiss Federal Supreme Court judge qualified for the Olympics in Paris and I just... didn't know about it.
