Lately, I've been busy with client work, so I've decided to start doing these kind of sketches.

Micklegate Bar in c1853. This sketch is based on a photograph dated 1853. It shows the Bar surrounded by buildings all long altered or replaced; some look like they may have dated from the 16th or 17th centuries. This includes the Jolly Bacchus public house to the right of the Bar, pulled down for street improvements in 1873. A tavern to the left, the Barefoot Inn, closed in 1928.
