Harper to the judge: "Your driver's license doesn't list your height and weight at birth. It doesn't list where you used to live. It identifies who you are now."
pure evil
He's putting up record job losses, driving the country into a war he can't even explain, and was credibly accused of raping a teenager in the Epstein files released yesterday - so of course it's time to try and ruin more trans people's lives
admit it's astonishing hearing someone actually defend trans kids in this way.
Thank you Mark Ruffalo and Bikini Kill bikinikill.bandcamp.com/merch/limite...
Just sharing in case ... Short one I'd published a few days back ...

Alright, my behind-the-eyes hurts, as does my mind. I'm going back to sleep (??).
Like them countering with 'it was on the homepage for 12 hours on Sunday' is *such* a bad look for them βΒ when the claim they're countering is clearly regarding print placement.
What's Helping Today!! Logging out. Signs that spring is actually imminent ...
(Anyway, one upside I suppose is at present I also find this website too overwhelming to actually look at it for very long)
It's funny doing a job that requires having the ability to read and think etc. because when that shit's offline, truly now what
hey, remember when you guys had an ombudsman and took criticism seriously and with consideration instead of outrage that anyone would presume to question you?
The PR mindset and the editorial mindset are actually quite different.
The commitment to transphobic trolling has, in my view, helped encourage this shift. These types misunderstand any criticism as an attack, because they refuse to ever acknowledge mistakes.
As a reporter/editor I find the shift really telling and depressing. Actual journalism professionals should want to be held accountable and correct their errors (and learn from them).
The goal shouldn't be 'defend whatever bullshit we published even if it's wrong and/or immoral.'
What an embarrassing look for them, this PR account and its overwhelming CYA energy ...
(Remember when they had a public editor? Sigh.)
if someone could fax me a functioning brain, i'd appreciate it.
Have had a cold this week for the first time in years (?) and it's reminded me that having a cold ... sucks. That's it, that's the post.
I wrote about the first national book banning bill, which effectively seeks to erase trans people. At the end I include a link to let your reps know that you oppose this bill and all it stands for. lithub.com/why-we-must-...
So now, I have to live in a reality where "everyone knows" something that is really just right wing propaganda, propped up by a handful of journalists who would deny their role in bringing this mass ignorance about.
Anyway, for the newsletter - reading the poll where voters oppose GAC for youth, but support it if doctors and parents agree it's necessary.
I spent 2022 and 2023 and much of 2024 trying to fight the lie that something was wrong with youth trans care. The lie won, now it's the dominant narrative.
sorry what now
kind of crazy that if you have enough money and don't like what you see in the media, you can just buy up every film studio, news station, and social media app and change it
In general this is so clearly a moral panic, down to its rotten core.
I know folks who work there and it's a bummer, I'll put it that way.
I am still kinda chuckling that 'some transes were mean to me online' somehow becomes taken as *expertise* on trans people ourselves ... It's pretty outrageous.
(And nobody Atlanticsplain to me that they've been transphobic for a while now, I *get it*)
Mostly I just am sad that a once nominally liberal publication like this refuses to platform trans people *still* and persists instead in questioning our very existence. It's disgusting.
How often I'm found covering musical theater numbers at the piano or whatever, giggling at Las Cultch ... My tastes are 'gayer' (in a purely stereotypical sense) than that of plenty of my cis queer male friends ...
