"Like vaccinations, the Ottawa Treaty has become a victim of its own success. The huge amount of land cleared and the reductions of casualties from over 20,000 a year in the early 1990s to 6,279 in 2024, means that people are starting to forget why these weapons were banned in the first place."

Trump orders Pentagon to resume nuclear weapons testing, citing rival nations’ programs The U.S. has not conducted a physical nuclear test since 1992 after President George H.W. Bush entered into a unilateral moratorium on nuclear weapons testing.

Trump has threatened to restart #nucleartests β€œon an equal basis” with China & Russia. While the intent is unclear this an unnecessary & reckless nuclear escalation, increasing nuclear dangers & disregarding the decades of harm already caused in 80 years of nuclear age.

Military action is not the solution. The US must stop all strikes immediately and return to diplomacy. This path leads away from disaster and toward real security.

US intelligence itself doesn’t believe Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons. The attack has no legal justification and risks a regional conflagration. Attacking nuclear installations is also specifically banned by international law.
