This is what we get for Abraham Lincoln not letting General Sherman absolutely shitface the entire South. This is what we get for letting Southerners vote in the first place. Get ready folks, the best is yet to come! The dumbest people in the US are the ones with all the voting power, yay!!

This whole story is so horrifying at so many levels. It should be a seismic scandal but it will probably barely make a ripple.

Have admittedly only skimmed it but this seems basically like a 120 page version of Yair Golan’s position on the I/P conflict.

לא מסכים…הרוב בעד המלחמה (כמו בפעם הקודמת) ובעד המשך הכיבוש.

אני איתך אבל נראה לי שרוב העם חושב אחרת (וגם כמעט כל המערכת הפוליטית.)

Indonesia to withdraw from Trump's Board of Peace if it does not benefit Palestinians JAKARTA — Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto has reassured local Islamic groups that he will withdraw from United States President Donald Trump's 'Board of Peace' if the ‌platform d...

I’ve been skeptical about the Board of Peace/ISF since the beginning. At the risk of being proven totally wrong in the next few months, I think there is a fair chance Trump leaves office without it amounting to anything.

Come on…yes, Israeli politics are very fragmented but Netanyahu pretty consistently leads preferred PM polling, and more to the point over 60% of Jewish Israelis define themselves as right wing (compared to 10-15% for the left.)

I think this is basically right, though I think the passage below could also be used to describe the US under Trump. With the difference being that in the US, Trumpism is quickly becoming very unpopular.

לא מפתיע אבל בהחלט מאכזב. מרגיש כאילו אנשים התמכרו למלחמה

I don’t think most Americans care at all about the things the opposition would “fix” (haredi draft, protecting the Supreme Court/AG.) Clearly US public opinion has shifted bc of Israeli treatment of Palestinians, and there the opposition is basically offering more of the same.

Wow! Interesting to consider what the reaction might be if it becomes clear the war won’t bring down the regime, or leads to one even more hostile to Israel. Ofc, given the near universal support only 9 months after the last war, maybe we shouldn’t expect anything different.

When we talk about Baby Boomers not getting off the stage: In 1997, the US president was born in 1946.

In 2007, the US president was born in 1946.

In 2017, the US president was born in 1946.

And next year in 2027? The US president will have been born in 1946.

In fact, Israel’s hopes for friendly relations with Iran almost certainly depend on a (new) authoritarian government there, like in nearly every other ME country that has made peace with Israel. (And of course, like Iran itself under the Shah.)

Netanyahu: Iran strikes will pave way for Israel-Saudi Arabia normalization Speaking With Fox News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Praised President Trump, Saying the Strikes Against Iran 'Wouldn't Happen' Without Him

Netanyahu told Fox News this war will allow Iranians to “form their own democratically elected government.” If that happens, there’s no reason to expect that government to be particularly friendly to Israel.

I think the relationship was already pretty clearly at risk whenever the Dems take back the WH…hell, maybe Bibi just figured if they’ve already burned their bridges with anyone besides Trump, might as well go for broke while he still can.

Totally anecdotal, but even the relatively sporadic opposition I’ve seen on twitter (outside anti-Zionist left circles) has surprised me. (As in I would have expected even less.)

03.03.2026 08:16 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

At this stage it seems like Israel must be hoping Trump stays in the WH forever. I don’t think they have any idea what’s in store for them the next time a Dem administration rolls around.

Anything else would have been surprising, right? Given prewar polling and the numbers we saw during the war last year.

In fact, taking out incompetent rivals itself generates a risk that their replacements will be more capable.

01.03.2026 10:23 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Key ? for me is if/when the strategy of turning potential threats into certain threats starts backfiring. While US support is assured and enemies turn out to much less competent than assumed, the risks are perhaps limited. If that changes, who knows.

Well he doesn’t flat out call for Israel to invade and annex all of its neighbors but he doesn’t clearly reject the idea either…such a stupid answer to what shouldn’t have been a hard question (what’s wrong with I have great respect for the ambassador but Israel’s goal is peace with its neighbors?)

Left wing Zionists in Israel sometimes like to point to these statements as some great defeat for the right. Of course that is totally detached from reality on the ground.

Speaking of the devil, just saw the NYT magazine published a fairly long profile of Golan! Wonder how often they give that kind of coverage to foreign opposition leaders polling at 8%

Will be very interesting to see the results if the merger with Meretz is reversed.

Not too surprising and kind of reminiscent of his remarks last year about Israel killing babies. Seems like he has a tendency to make pronouncements without any awareness of the possibility of criticism.

Okay I can see the logic there though that would be quite cynical on his part.
