Catching up with a lot of @remember64show.bsky.social episodes from 2024-> ... it's a blast!

If we can only have art from people who "aren't in it for the money" that means we can only have art from privileged middle-class dilettantes. Making art being a viable career is responsible for nearly all worthwhile art, and if it's not a viable career any more we will get drastically less of it.

I did definitely think how the game would be quite doable on a lot older hardware; I was thinking mainframes/terminal games. This was fun to think about!

It also prompted me to reflect why I was so "I see what it's doing, it's all right" which is always interesting. Also I had no idea about the game being already out for so long, having a legacy, and how the experience was different on mobile devices, etc etc.

A few time units back I noticed @shortgame.fm had an episode about A Dark Room, a game I recently-ish (months, years, I'm not sure) had played. I listened to the episode and to my delight they really sang its praises; I had a mehkay experience with the game myself, but I could see why they liked it!

In the decade-plus I've been making my weekly videos, Rebecca was the only developer to have jumped into my comments to clear up a point I was unclear about—then she graciously agreed to be on the podcast. I found her to be as generous and kind as she was talented. It's truly tragic that she's gone.
