Worth getting up early for... first breeding bird survey of the year and what a morning for it! Songsters included treecreeper, nuthatch, siskin, stock dove, plus plenty of blue tit, great tit, chaffinch and robin. Also GS woodpecker drumming. Lovely! #WildBrownsea @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social

Great to see Lyn!

Brown hares are at their most visible in early spring when the breeding season encourages fighting or 'boxing'. Keep an eye out for them on open farmland, in grassland habitats and at woodland edges. πŸ‘€ ~ Jack

The Climate Club at Lytchett Minster School enjoyed a session working with Anona Dawson from Dorset Wildlife Trust’s Wilder Communities Team to create biodegradable bird feeders from pine cones, lard and seed. These feeders are now up in the school grounds, attracting plenty of birds! 🐦 ~ Jack

Why are Dorset’s heathlands so special? 🌿

With decades of experience studying Dorset’s heathland, Dr Lesley Haskins shares why these rare landscapes are more fragile than they appear, and why spring is an important time for the wildlife that depends on them. πŸ¦πŸ‘‰ bit.ly/400Kqc4 ~ Jack

Nearly 10% of Dorset’s 1,300 Sites of Nature Conservation Interest contain wetland habitats πŸ’§

These special places support unique plants and the wildlife that depends on them β€” including common frogs, often spotted at this time of year as frogspawn appears in shallow waters. 🌱🐸 ~ Mariko

What a beauty, Mike!

Did you know? The minotaur beetle is one of a number of dung beetles in the UK that bury balls of dung for their larvae to feed on. They provide a vital nutrient-recycling service for our habitats.
