Today I had the pleasure of teaching 102 twelve-year-olds the basics of doodle art. They were totally into it, and it did my soul a lot of good to hang out and make art with them. Can’t wait to show them my colouring technique next week! #doodleart #yegartist #artistinresidence

A wee little test of some new Stonehenge paper and some gold leaf. Love the way the colours pop on this 100% cotton rag, but I didn’t get the smooth gradients I get on my regular Arches paper. SUPER shiny gold leaf, but I did find it a bit tedious to do. Must work on my technique! #doodleartist #yeg
I listened to Sir David Attenborough’s life story while drawing this one, and it’s a good thing he’s had such a long and eventful life, as this one is big, and took a long time! Excited to dive into colour now. Stay tuned for greens, blues, yellows and corals, unless I change my mind in the process!
The opposite of a restrained palette! This Rainbow Connection was challenging to do, but I’m thrilled with the effect.

I made these last night, inspired by President Zelenskyy’s courage in the face of a bully. They’ll be for sale at the Night of Artists Art Walk (March 14-16) in #yeg, and all proceeds will go to Ukrainian relief efforts. It’s not much, but it’s something.

New to me colours on this one! I normally choose colours that are bright and clear, but I decided to play with muted tones. I found it challenging to bring in the light, and halfway through, I was ready to chuck it. But happy with it now, after some metallic ink and canary yellow!

What a difference paper makes!
I’m working on a giant doodle on Strathmore mixed media, and it’s giving me no end of trouble. So, I jumped into a wee piece as a refresh, and used glorious Arches hot press watercolour paper. This paper is a DREAM to work with and takes colour so beautifully!
