New Zealand has just become the first country in the world to weaken the climate action targets that it had set in law. They’ve done this to allow the intensive livestock industry to pollute the climate even more without having to pay for the damage they’re doing to the planet.

Vraiment formidable! Paris offers more than just a success story—it’s a blueprint. The lesson is clear: change is possible when policy, infrastructure, AND public space all point in the same direction. Cities [can] design environments where cycling's the fastest, safest, most enjoyable travel mode.

New Study Shows How Paris Pedaled Its Way to a Cycling Revolution
Cycling through central Paris meant weaving between buses and scooters—a bold choice reserved for the fearless few.
“The transformation is astonishing. [Paris] has quietly—& quickly—become one of the most bike-friendly cities in the world. What started as a series of emergency “coronapistes” or pop-up bike lanes, built during the pandemic has evolved into a permanent bike network spanning hundreds of kilometres.”

The head of transport at the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit: “Not only will this result in more CO2 being emitted in the midst of a climate crisis, it will hit the UK’s drivers in their wallets.”
"A number of studies have found that PHEV drivers do not reliably charge their vehicles."

Why have green spaces and room for pedestrians when you can have asphalt and deadly weapons moving at 80 MPH?

We're now deporting babies, U.S. citizens, and disappearing people into foreign torture centers without due process. Oh, and I just heard on The Daily that deportations are DOWN under Trump compared to Biden.
This is what you get when you vote for today's Republican party.

Pretty sad. He says he wants the U.S. to succeed and then does the opposite of what success requires.

Pretty of excellent non-Tesla EVs available today, even in the U.S., which continues to keep affordable Chinese EVs off the market.

Trying to eliminate EVs is a rather strange move from a president who supposedly wants to bring back manufacturing jobs.
EVs are the future and other countries know that, so that's what they'll demand. Without EVs, the U.S. auto industry will have very few exports in the near future.

The Los Angeles wildfires are climate disasters compounded
Conditions for a January firestorm in Los Angeles like this have not existed before now, writes a meteorologist and climate journalist
As the climate crisis escalates, the interdependent atmospheric, oceanic & ecological systems that constrain human civilization will lead to compounding & regime-shifting changes that are difficult to predict in advance.
The LA fires are a heartbreaking example.

I'm hoping *this* the time for a climate reckoning. Pretty, pretty please?

The Lasting Mental Health Toll of the California Wildfires
Survivors of wildfires like those burning across Los Angeles can experience mental health issues long after a blaze is out.
“It’s not just the loss of life or property that people mourn. Survivors of wildfires can suffer a collective sense of loss from damage to the natural environment […].”

My previous apartment had a metro stop about a five minute walk away.
The problem? I only lived there for about a year, and it was being rebuilt the whole time. I really wish I had been there for the reopening. 😕

Hanging out downtown today. While I don't have a metro stop very close to me, I greatly appreciate having it as an option to get around. Makes life so much easier.
