Just now realizing you designed this! I'm a really big fan of the 6 dots, it seems like it should be infuriating but instead I really enjoy them. Reminds me of Matt Willey’s dotty layouts.

Software Design is weird. It is undoubtedly the most impactful medium shaping the world today, yet even those of us working in it know very little of its history. We have no broadly-read books, no docu-series, no video essays. Most see the works of the past as obsolete rather than a rich heritage.

The Theatre of Marcellus in Rome. It’s older than the coliseum, has been built on continuously, and is still used today.

We put out new open source fonts today by @ambriganti.bsky.social. The line variant is my favourite but it’s fun to play with stacking variants on top of each other too. Hope you guys enjoy playing with them ✌️

If Ken Burns has the Ken Burns effect, how long before we refer to 3D pans across giant diagrams as the Jon Bois effect?

The 3D art is sick. Hope you are able to pursue this aesthetic for something else in the future!

Hey Chris, big fan of the podcast but would’ve appreciated a spoiler warning for Elden Ring about 30mins in. Just a heads up in future would be nice πŸ‘

Ghost in the Shell came out 30 years ago today. Imagine having the balls to show over 3 minutes of ambient footage soundtracked by a Bulgarian choir in the middle of an action thriller.

Ah I gotcha. I guess I’m personally more biased towards art direction but you mean the actual _form_ of the storytelling. (Which I guess is why art direction and game direction are two different awards πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ)

Hmm I wouldn’t see either of those as very Hollywood-y. What qualities do you think makes something cinematic? I’d think more along the lines of realistic camera work, grounded mo cap, lots of mid range character shots with shallow depth of field e.g. RDR2, Death Stranding, Last of Us, God of War.
