ADDENDUM: Apologies for the lateness. We recorded this and it was being edited and then I fell sick for the last week and half and was away from the office. Back on schedule now. Hopefully, we'll have a new one very soon on current events in Iran.

1/ New Episode! Take a break from the horrors of war and sit for a sobering and hopeful conversation with @wearenotenemies.bsky.social, Bon, and guest Jon Musserman as they discuss the state of immigration crack-downs, what people can do to help migrants, and the human cost of silence.
βYou donβt even have to ask. You just grab them by the airstrip.β
10/10 comment.
Itβs rather amazing the number of Christians who are cheeringly posting about how theyβre breathlessly waiting to go preach the Gospel in Iran when the regime is overthrown β¦ but weirdly, are not putting themselves in harmβs way right now with the pedoβs military.
Just saying.

I hate it. On the other hand, maybe devs will learn to write tighter code. But ... things being what they are ... nothing will change and unless AI crashes in 2-5 years, high prices are here to stay.
The fruit of Christian Nationalism and the fruit of MAGA is bloody.
Christian Nationalism put Trump into power, and MAGA is a machine built for nothing but death and destruction.
I feel like the only reason Trump didn't have the Epstein victims, who were guests at the SOTU, stand to be seen by the public ... is because he didn't just recognize them. Understandable because the last time he saw them they were 14, at Epstein's apartment.
I've presided over funerals in which the bodies laying in the open caskets showed more life than Trump did at the SOTU, tonight.
It was like watching an elderly pedophile version of Mussolini fall asleep on the Barcalounger.
He sounds like heβs on uppers.
Heβs wondering where the couches are.
Teetotaling.
2/ Christian Nationalism takes the body and blood of Christ, broken for the healing and righteousness of man and chops it up into parts of an unrecognizable carcass that is left in the bowls of the priests of power.
Damnable and heretical. Flee all forms of it, and its fruits.

1/ As Trump gives the SOTU, remember this: He is in power because of the policy lusts of those who adhere to heretical Christian Nationalism.
Christian Nationalism, all forms of it, is a type of eidΓ³lothutos; meat offered to pagan idols.
Psst β¦ hey, America β¦ this is how you hold people accountable. You know, instead of protecting office holders who are in the Epstein files 58,000 times.

2/ Perhaps that is a good reminder of why we fast and turn our focus inward during the liturgical season of Lent. In each of us God has formed an entire universe created to seek Him.

1/ Personal Post: We just had a load of old cine film from my wife's family converted. In one of them Soong Mei-ling is sitting around with my wife's mother and grandmother having tea and gossiping.
Sometimes we forget how small and weird the world really is.
While I was preparing my Ash Wed homily, my wife asked if I was fasting anything for lent. I said "Yes. I'm fasting from choosing diplomacy when speaking to MAGA online."
She was not nearly as amused as I was.
Agreed.
And the same goes for whoever designed standard screws. Philips or T screws or nothing.
MAGA in three pictures.
MAGA Valentine Cards.
it's gold
Wait ... the President who nearly failed at college, bankrupted himself 6 times, and lied to avoid service in Vietnam ... believes HE has plumbed the depths of legal arguments not even yet proposed and found a way to avoid the normal Constitutional processes to allow his electoral cheating?
3/ "It saw the fruition of an ideology of martyrial resistance,
and the transformation of martyrdom from commemoration of violence suffered to justification for violence inflicted - from dying for God to killing for God."
It's superb from start to finish.

2/ Can't recommend it enough. I'm in the middle of prep for a lecture series and his book is a central source. Nothing happening today is new. Human nature is consistent, as are the rationalizations many Christians use in pursuit of their goals, both for ill and good.
1/ If you're looking at current events and wondering how Christians can support violence, intimidation, pedophilic leaders, etc in support of "building" a "Christian" nation ... take the time to read Michael Gaddis's excellent book "There is No Crime for Those who Have Christ."
