Wart first appeared in Doki Doki Panic, which was reskinned into Mario 2, is considered a Mario character for that reason, yet never shows up in a Mario game again, instead appearing in Zelda Link's Awakening, & having a kid in Animal Crossing. 😅

I know Pauline's star was back on the rise beforehand. They did add the blue Lumalee as a skin in Mario Tennis Fever and they TECHNICALLY were the shopkeepers in the game first. BUT they were both in the movie and then got appearances in the games.
