How are institutions thinking of comprehensive eval that balances metrics/indicators with substantive qualitative assessment. @tanitacasci.bsky.social @ox.ac.uk "We ask researcher to provide short list of "outputs." The researcher decides. Doesn't have to be pubs. Explain contribution." #APE2025
The #APE2025 Opening Keynote and Discussion focused on how our #ScholComm past can inform our future.
Sven Fund, Caroline Sutton, and Max Mosterd led the conversation and thanks to Colleen Campbell for the shout out to DT's work tracking/analyzing OA output and revenue.

#APE2025 acceptance rates and βqualityβ are not the same thing. Quality can be an established set of norms that hold across all journals. You can add additional criteria around selectivity. We need to make this distinction. @bmj.com editor is right - quality is about editorial handling expertise
And to be clear, this was in the context of a panelist's statement that we need a system in which authors "retain control of their work." What this usually means is that authors should abdicated control over their work to the public, rather than to publishers. #APE2025
@rickanderson.bsky.social raising the question of #authorrights and what it means: Can they choose something other than CCBY? (SR: He's alluding to the #rightsretention debate catalyzed by @coalitions-oa.bsky.social - Agree that NC-ND should be options) #openaccess #openscience
Bifurcation in #scholcomm = scale of commercials helping them - they can't risk losing control of infrastructure they operate; non-profit sector involved in small initiatives/infrastructure (underfunded, don't scale, unsustainable); largest NFPs are trying to build scale as well #APE2025 #openaccess
Consolidation is inevitable as smaller players cannot catch up in the coming years. #APE2025 #openaccess
