I now use a local @synologyofficial.bsky.social NAS for my personal cloud, and back that up offsite to Synology's cloud with client side encryption. Way more flexibility (for example, I can scale offsite backup in 1 TB increments over time if needed), and still mostly avoid the big 3 tech monops.
Update to this. I had to ditch Proton Drive (still sticking with the rest of the @proton.me suite though). The lack of basic features was just too frustrating, and I nearly lost some files during a period of copying/moving some files.

I just discovered Internxt (internxt.com) and they look pretty good as a European based E2E zero-knowledge encryption cloud service. I've been pretty unhappy with @proton.me Drive (love all their mail/VPN/password stuff, but Drive is seriously lacking a lot of functionality). Going to try them out.
