A great moment to remind people, from my own roots in the Bluegrass / Mountain Music community:
Sea Shanties are Black Music.

A great moment to remind people, from my own roots in the Bluegrass / Mountain Music community:

From a thread I posted on Twitter way back when, when The Wellerman was having a moment:
Given the interactions between Black slaves and workers with sailors in the various ports of the 18th century, the translation of "Black dockworkers use songs to organize when to lift/pull/haul/stay," to "European sailors think this is a good idea, copy them" is a straight line.
A lot of shanties preserve bits of this history in their lyrics.
I said, in the first post, that Sea Shanties were Black Music. That's true, if not exclusively so. They're also Celt music, just by way of for instance.
It might be better to say, that they're American music.
And American Music is Black Music.
Let's not ignore that.
Cheers.
To my ears, waulking songs have the same appeal as shanties. I can't help wondering if they didn't share the recent upswing shanties have had in part because they're traditionally women's songs.
KOSA is the newest bill set to hurt the online landscape.
But what does it mean for you?

Statler was and is very loved, and both his and other bat sanctuaries and rehabbers are still making sure more bats can either return to the wild or live out lives like his.
I suspect the usual shape of modern guitars was designed by a cis woman.
So much cute in these photos!
Do you see trans people as people?
Do you see their transness as valid, acceptible?
Do you see trans people as vulnerable, esp now?
What power do you see trans folks as having? Do they have a right to their voices?
What do you know about trans folks and who put out that information and why?

The wizard practices his crow call as he walks to town. A crow calls back.
My favorite country music involves ghosts, trains, or ghost trains, but this is pretty good stuff.

Peter and the Wolf. I get it, and I won't tell anyone not to play it, but (1) the story is meh, (2) it's just not my favorite example of leitmotifs, and (3) everything by Prokofiev sounds the same, so I'd rather just take Dance of the Knights and leave the rest.
youraislopbores.me interaction. My prompt: "There was a great big moose! He liked to drink a lot of juice." Their drawing: A moose and a glass of juice, and the words "this sounds like a reference".
Very observant.
youraislopbores.me interaction: I asked for "Giant robot!" and someone drew exactly that, remarkably clearly. It has a classic boxy shape with noodly arms and legs and C-shaped hands. It is towering over skyscrapers.
Giant robot! I am impressed.
Thanks! I'll check my library.
Annie is a Christmas movie.
I like a murder mystery fine, but there should also be more mysteries where no one dies. Heists and fraud and lost items and such have plenty of potential.
Neither "mint green" nor "lime green" is actually the color of the plant, but the vibes are right, so I'll go with it. (Sage green gets it all around right.)
so please, literally anything helps to catch up.
i have to refill my prescription soon as well and i don't have anything coming in right now.
The Indiana Jones movies are quite consistent: the local gods are real.
What a good cat!
Also a great potential surname for a LEGO builder.
Pressurized oxygen chambers? It's my own brain, not the Lights of Zetar.
Valentine's Day and Christmas should switch places. We need a boost from gifts and colorful lights around mid-to-late winter, not right near the beginning, and couples kissing in early snow is much more romantic than February grey slush puddles.
