Hi Scott! I hope you had a good time! Uh oh...'candid' might mean I put my foot in my mouth, I don't remember! 😆

A selection of my latest framed art acquisitions.
My framer never ceases to leave me pleased with his approaches to every painting I bring him.
#mtg #mtgart @serenamalyon.bsky.social @sarahfinnigan.bsky.social I don’t think Victor is on Bluesky.
It looks like I'll be celebrating my birthday in Atlanta this year. Excited to be heading to Magic Con in September!
Backed by a sheer cliff wall, monumental statues line the shore like sentinels facing out to sea. The statues resemble the Egyptian god Horus with hawk-like faces and a shawl of feathers. They each kneel resting weight forward on front limbs, but each statue erodes more than the last as the line extends down the shore. Children stand on the nearest hawk monument. One holds as staff and stares out as a line of doves flies past.
SENTINELS (1988)
Acrylic on Canvas - 22” x 33”
After more than a decade of continuous illustration work, this was my first non-commissioned painting. Who can resist imagining a peaceful world where children are enjoying nature and the symbols of war are falling into ruin? 1/5
Working on a painting about hope for the best humanity can be, while living with where we are right this moment is proving to be very difficult. I’m trying to think of this work as an act of stubborn rebellion, but keeping my heart in it is proving challenging. 😞
“The Arc of the Universe”
The black-and-white image depicts a detailed illustration of a figure sitting amidst a pile of skulls. The figure has long braided hair and wears goggles atop their head, with a rugged jacket and boots. The background consists of cracked rocks and a dark void, contrasted by the intricate texture of the attire and skulls. The character’s calm expression adds a mysterious and adventurous ambiance to the scene. Small, bright elements, possibly gems or lights, are scattered throughout the background rocks

The character in those faces in that last one are very Norman Rockwell. They feel like real people in a way you don't see too often in fantasy art IMO. It's a great painting!

Dear god, it's beautiful!
Trinidad is tiny, but has a cute teahouse in the old apothecary attached to the vaudeville theater, a coffee shop-meets-comics shop-meets-cereal bar-meets-blacklight arcade, and several great restaurants. If CO is easy to get to, join us at the opening! We're doing a carpool from Denver.
19+ artists in a scenic little town in Colorado. Demos by Colin & Kristine Poole, Greg Manchess, Kaysha Siemens, Grant Cooley, Zak Pullen, and Joanna Barnum, figure drawing, museum archives tour, etc. Group hike on Friday, and you're welcome to join some of us at MeowWolf Wednesday! 2/3
Character in Context 2025 is coming up next month, in which I'll hang this preliminary sketch & color study combo with my painting for the show.

"Unending Whisper", my third and final offering for Magic's Tarkir: Dragonstorm. My personal favorite of the bunch. I loved this set! Again (again) thanks to my AD, Forrest, for sending me the perfect assignments.
A finished sky is usually the first milestone in a painting. For this one I combined approaches, painting the luminous distant clouds in glazes, and then did the dark, low-hanging clouds opaquely to blend wet-in-wet.
This is for the upcoming Character in Context show at the AR Mitchell Museum!
😁I get into trouble when I spot a name I recognize in a stack of cards!
Thanks, all that gold looks great!
“Gravecrawler”, for Magic’s “Tarkir: Dragonstorm”. Grateful to my wonderful AD on this and all of my other cards in this set, Forrest Schehl.
The best part of my job is when I'm concepting a new painting, working out the details, and a really exciting small idea occurs to me that'll make it so much better. It's that tiny thrill that sit you up straight in your chair, like you just won the lottery.
A dusty path through scrubland winds back to a town squatting on the horizon. The full moon hangs over it as birds circle ominously in silhouette. On the low, desiccated branch of a deformed tree, a gristled and road weary Roland stands to get a better view of what lies ahead. The trunk that supports him barely climbs above ground; it looks more like a driftwood arch than anything resembling a tree. The horse tethered to it glances opposite into the soft light of the setting sun. Lavender shadow falls across the tall butte that runs behind them.
THE GUNSLINGER: OUTSIDE ELURIA (2005 / 2019)

Every time I think I'm 'done' with the universe of the Dark Tower I get called back again...and I go, eager to see if I can hit closer to the mark this time. 1/2
Beautiful and effective art!
