Oxidative phosphorylation complexes contain subunits encoded by both the nuclear and mitochondrial genomes. How do cells coordinate the synthesis and assembly of these complexes at the inner membrane? We teamed up with Martin Ott (@mitolab.bsky.social) to address this in two recent papers.

Using auxin-induced degron system in yeast, this study reveals that Fzo1 depletion causes abnormal mitochondrial inheritance and reduced mtDNA synthesis during the first cell division, worsening in subsequent divisions. It provides new insights into how Fzo1 loss leads to petite formation.
Just out in @science.org: Together with the lab of @wilhelmpalm.bsky.social, we used sequential in-vitro/in-vivo CRISPR screens to decipher metabolic adaptations in tumors.
