Three abstention doctrines and the rule against perpetuities.

…I (was among those who) founded one (because my school didn’t have one, either) and as far as I know, the point of having a review is giving law students access to the opportunities they wouldn’t have without it.

Three times in the past few years, I learned of bar discipline or malpractice complaints against opposing counsel in cases I had.

The bar discipline was pretty justified, but sad.

The malpractice complaints, way more of a mixed bag. The lawyers were ultimately wrong, but it wasn’t absurd.

We have reached the point in the weekend where I am scrubbing the bathroom, dead certain not only that I am not loved, and will never be, but that I don’t deserve it.

I hope I die before I make anyone’s life worse. I can’t stand watching this much longer.

“Hey, Ennie, I saw your appearance and wanted to introduce myself, and give you an idea of our view of things. By our calculation answer seems due Tuesday, so if you need an extension…”

A thing I have noticed as my practice moves away from doing any personal injury defense, and doing more construction work, is that there are way more assholes in the “small firm/general practice” space than the traditionally-thought-of plaintiff’s bar.

As the semiquincentennial of the Revolution ramps up, I find myself more interested in the African American Thomas Jefferson who cleaned windows for the town of Boston in the 1810s, than the Thomas Jefferson of Monticello who enslaved African Americans to do this sort of work for him for free 🗃️
