This demanding behavior makes us believe that they are constantly hungry, just like a cat gets fat because we are unable to resist feeding it when it is asking for food.

Monitor lizards in captivity (smaller and larger species of Varanus genus equally) tend to be obese for two reasons.
1. They are extremely food motivated. Even in nature, they will accumulate fat in case of food shortage, and you can find many fat monitor lizards in the wild, tho it’s transitory.

The video is doing well on Instagram (30k views vs the usual 800), and I’m getting comments from exotic vets and lizard owners praising the exercise and enrichment here.
I’m happy it’s recognized! Too many monitor lizards end up with metabolic diseases because of overfeeding and lack of exercise 🦎
