Myself and @immunoah.bsky.social are looking to hire a postdoctoral scientist to build a next-generation high-throughput high-resolution light sheet microscope for imaging entire cleared organs/tissues and to further develop live & fixed tissue clearing methods.

there's a principle in livestock breeding (we are where we are) that if you select for a particular characteristic, you inevitably select against all other qualities.

If the police and Home Office select for terrorism legislation as theatre, they inevitably select against it as serious law.

This is true.

Climate Change is one of those things that now needs a lot more activism than research.

People are afraid of disability and chronic illness

They can’t comprehend getting sick and never getting better

They tell us to try harder

They blame it on lifestyle choices

They label us expendable and tell themselves they’ll be the exception

No one is the exception.

It can happen to anyone.

tbh i dont hear paranoia about being shot, I basically hear even white brits saying its just not worthwhile to go to the US so a crazy immigration guy can block their entry and keep them in a small room for 12 hours before being deported

This made me cry with despairing laughter. We’re on the brink of worldwide recession and devastating conflict and this is the priority? It’s as if an entire political class has just given up. The government barely any better.

Ever wondered how a eukaryotic transcription factor finds its specific DNA motif in the vast genome? In this preprint, we directly measured the dynamics of this search process in living cells, revealing a cooperative mechanism mediated by disordered regions. 1/10 doi.org/10.64898/202...

Two things here.

One, you don't sit there and whine about media coverage and headlines if things are going well.

Two, the administration is just outright saying that they fully expect Ellison to use CNN to be a Trumpist propaganda organ.

The problem with how we draw maps is that countries near the equator appear 'small'. Iran overlaid on Europe.

Imagine trying to dominate an area this size with just air power or contemplating putting troops in when it's spent forty years preparing to fight exactly the kind of war that results.

Join us at EMBL Heidelberg (8–10 Dec 2026) to learn about ongoing efforts to decode gene function and organisation in human gut microbes, and present your science.

We do that as well - the requirement to review our own outputs is what seems unusual.

We get asked to rate and review our own outputs for REF. This is in addition to being asked to explain in each category why we're proposing the output in the first place - so it's redundant as well as a cheap way to ensure at least one "4*" in the system…

Pretty sure what's described in this article is against the REF2029 code of practice (e.g. section 13).

Interested to see if there are any teeth to the CoP.
