But last night, he and President Trump chose to start a new war with Iran.
What happened to your historic victory Mr. Prime Minister?
In June, Netanyahu said:
“We achieved an historic victory, and this victory will stand for generations. We have removed two immediate existential threats to us: The threat of nuclear annihilation and the threat of annihilation by 20,000 ballistic missiles."
President Donald Trump has used the word “obliterated” at least a dozen times to describe the impact of his bombing of Iran last summer.
But last night, he chose to start a new war with Iran anyway.
What happened, Mr. President?
Just 8 months ago President Trump declared that the Iranian nuclear program had been “obliterated”. And yet here we are again.
We need a comprehensive strategy grounded in diplomacy, not in impulsive military escalation.

Military strikes of this sort can – at best – produce short-term, tactical gains. They cannot dismantle Iran’s nuclear knowledge, eliminate the threat posed by its ballistic missile capabilities, or stop Iranian-sponsored terrorism.
The people of Iran do not deserve what is happening to them now. Innocent civilians are being killed. Israelis, Palestinians, and Americans stationed across the Middle East are now also in danger from retaliation and further escalation.
Americans are waking up to the deeply unsettling news that President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu chose to start a war with Iran.
This is wrong. It needs to stop.
This bill gives the Chief Rabbinate even more authority over the Western Wall and creates jail terms for non-Orthodox worship. This is an affront both to religious freedom and to women.
The Western Wall is not the private property of ultra-Orthodox rabbis.

On February 25, 1994, Baruch Goldstein murdered 29 Palestinians worshiping at the Ibrahimi Mosque within the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron. The massacre took place during Ramadan. Today, we honor the memories of the victims and reflect on the deadly consequences of Jewish supremacy and the settler movement. Goldstein was a devoted follower of extremist Meir Kahane and a member of the far-right Kach party, which advocated the expulsion of Arabs from the land of Israel. Kach’s extremism prompted it to be banned from the Knesset in the 1980s, and it was classified as a terrorist organization after the Hebron Massacre.
Sadly, the racist principles of Kahanism are well represented in the current Israeli government. For instance, the Jewish Home party is part of the ruling coalition. Itamar Ben-Gvir, its leader, is now Minister of National Security. Ben Gvir famously hung a portrait of Baruch Goldstein in his living room for many years, only taking it down in 2020 in response to criticism during an election campaign. 32 years ago today, Baruch Goldstein murdered 29 worshippers. Today, more than ever, we know that the racist and violent ideologues cannot be allowed to stay in power.
