We’re family. It is hard to put the emotions I feel about the cousin’s on my mom’s side vs my dad’s side but I think one factor is that there are fewer of us and we’re closer in age. I am down a cousin on both side and I do not like that at all.

I know a lot of folks would have preferred that I’d ripped a strip off him, but there’s a family dynamic in play here: my cousins on that side of the family have always had room for us. The other side of the family, not so much.
Also, a while ago I’d edited his Wikipedia page to say that he had an inordinate love of dad sweaters (which is true) and he completely cracked up when I told him because he’d seen it and had no idea who’d done it.
We are family and we love each other and right now, that’s what I’m counting on.
This is obviously not optimal, but it was a more substantive conversation than I expected to have and I’m going to keep the lines of communication open and I hope we can have more conversations about this.
Just got off the phone with Billy. He listened to my concerns seriously and with compassion and let me know that there are trans people in his life. He said that for him, it comes down to biology but he also implied that if someone passes, they can use their preferred bathroom.
This is wholly unsurprising to me. Way back when, I tried to do an intersectional analysis of the Locus Recommended Books list. I did it for three years, I think, and it was exhausting work. I hope the numbers are different now, but I don’t know.

Not great. I’ve been unemployed since last summer and it’s a terrible job market. I am overqualified (too old) for positions that pay more than I ever made at my old job.
